The Mystery Jets are made up of the following buccaneering backbeat boys: Kai - bass/double bass vocals; Kapil - drums; Blain - keyboards/percussion/lead vocals; William - lead guitar/vocals; and Henry - rhythm guitar/keyboards/stylophone/vocals.
Self-confessed purveyors of "barber shop/skiffle soaked Mersey beat a'u modern", they're also a dab hand at throwing 'weird parties in boat sheds' and 'propelling forward the kind of sounds flying saucers make when they disobey intergalactic speed limits.'
They were in recording and mixing Alas Agnes - the follow-up to You Can't Fool Me Dennis and due for release on Dec 4th 2005 - in The Garden in the autumn of 2005. James Ford was producing and Miloco's Finn Eiles was engineering and Mike Grimley was in attentive attendance.
They have since returned to Miloco in July 2007, where they used Musikbox and The Pool with producer Erol Alkan and engineer Al O Connell. We were so glad to see them return, we just had to get a few words out of them on what they were up to...

Quick band history - when formed, previous bands you were in, etc, etc.:
MJets formed in 1996, under the name 'Red Sauce Horse Divorce'. The thrill of being named after a fantasy feature film soon wore off, and so the Jets alias ensued. In 2004 a record deal with 679 Recordings was signed by all parties over champagne in Henry Harrison's 14ft river cruiser, parked at the time in the middle of the Thames-by-way-of Twickenham. A party (indeed the first of many) followed on the shores of nearby Eel Pieland, and after that, an album and a tour.
What project are you doing here at Miloco (e.g. recording, mixing or remixing/single tracks or album) and when's it due to be released?
Working into previously recorded tracks as well as recording new ones for the forthcoming 2nd Jets album.
Which Miloco studio are you using and why did you choose it?
The Pool. Owned by an e-bay addict. Have previously worked at Hoxton (Square), Garden, Toyshop too...
Who was your studio assistant, and how was your studio assistant?
Ollie Wright... Genius. Never wrong. Always right.
How would you describe the material you are working on?
How Liars might interpret Michael Jackson. Pro 1's replace fretless basses and Erol Alkan replaces Quincy.
How did the working relationship with Erol Alkan come about, and what do you feel he brings to the project that other producers wouldn't?
Erol is relatively new to producing bands, though he has much previous experiences with recording sounds and fucking shit up. Mystery Jets have always strived to never repeat a trick and Erol has never not got a new trick up his sleeve. The Captain Cornflakes of alternative music you could say.

Kai (our bassist) once jumped from a speaker stack somewhere in Europe, in some kind of mid-song choreography-gone-wrong resulting in a poor young girl spending the rest of the evening with sodden undergarments.
If you could go back to any point in time, what year would you go to and why?
1980. The world is at a crossroads. Technology-concerned, the decade ahead will make huge leaps forward. The vinyl record will be replaced by the tape, and the tape will be replaced by the CD. Television will replicate life in full colour, and thousands of dollars worth of children's pocket money will be swallowed up by great companies like Nintendo, Reebok, Casio and Swatch, specifically created to make the world a happier place.

Mystery Jets - 'Twenty One'
Hailing from a place as fantastical-sounding as Eel Pie Island, you'd be forgiven for expecting some intriguingly eccentric twists to the Mystery Jets' strand of indie-folk, and once again they deliver with Twenty One, the follow up to 2004's Making Dens. Mystery Jets did the Miloco tour in the latter half of 2007. The Pool, The Garden, Musikbox, Sofa Sound and The Square were all used by the band, producer Erol Alkan and engineer Al O Connell during the making of Twenty One.

Mystery Jets - 'Young Love'
Original band, original track, and with an original video. Mystery Jets certainly don't conform to mainstream trends, and they're all the better for it. Adding to the magic of this, their latest single, is a collaboration with another of Miloco's brightest young clients, Laura Marling. 'Young Love' was tracked in The Pool by producer Erol Alkan and engineer Jimmy Robertson in 2007.

The Mystery Jets were in The Garden (and a couple of our other studios) throughout 2005 and 2006 and this single was a James Ford production with Finn Eiles engineering.

Mystery Jets - 'Alas Agnes'
Alas Agnes tells the tale of unrequited love between a young protagonist and Agnes, a stunning Transvestite sat in the back streets of Kings Cross. In order to win Agnes's heart he takes the drastic step of a sex change only to return and find Agnes has already fallen for a younger prettier muse. Mystery Jets are poised to become one of next years most talked about bands. This single was recorded in The Garden Studios by engineer Finn Eiles with James Ford producing.
