Bloc Party were at first in and out of our Hoxton Square studios in 2004 and early 2005, when they recorded part of the debut album 'Silent Alarm' with producer Paul Epworth and engineer Elliot James. In late 2006 they returned with Elliot to record and mix b-sides at the Garden studios, and work on their second LP A Weekend In The City with Garrett Lee.
And then the big one came...
In 2008, the band of course were reunited with Paul - who this time was working alongside engineer Mark Rankin - to track half of their third LP, the acclaimed Intimacy, which became one of the biggest sellers of the year. The sessions took place in The Pool throughout that summer. The studio was also the setting for Channel 4's Live and Intimate documentary on the band. Scroll down to view clips...

Bloc Party - 'One Month Off'
www.myspace.com/blocparty
If suffering from severe January Blues, then this single's title might not be what you want to hear mentioned nearly a month to the day after you were merrily sipping Rioja adorned in paper hat and knitted rudolph jumper. However as most of us have been dieing to hear what Kele, Russell, Gordon and Matt next have up their ever-inventive sleeves, then the so-called "most depressing time of year" suddenly looks a whole lot brighter! The brilliant 'One Month Off' was produced by Paul Epworth and engineered by Mark Rankin in The Pool, summer 2008. |

Bloc Party - "A Weekend In The City"
www.blocparty.com/ As the title suggests, the hugely-anticipated follow up to 'Silent Alarm' mainly focuses on many people's favourite pastime, that is going out and altering minds, in this case within the depths of London's bustling East End. And no one tells a party story better than someone whose name includes the word. Taking their melodically euphoric indie rock to a darker level, Bloc Party's second album has all the qualities to make 2007 well-and-truly their year. Bloc Party were in the Garden studios during the summer of 2006 recording strings for the album with producer Garrett Lee. ![]() |
