The Yard Repackaged!
"Mixing In The Box"

This March we're beaming the spotlight on The Yard. At the start of 2010 we converted the studio into our affordable Mixing in the Box room, however the space is also very suitable for editing and programming.

The Yard is based around a powerful 32 output Protools HD3 Accel rig with a good selection of plug-ins with monitoring being provided by Boxer T2 speakers, NS10 Studios or Genelec 1031's. The monitoring is controlled by a PreSonus Central Station. Add a good selection of hardware outboard and some mic amps for recording and the room is well setup for overdubs. In 2007 early 2008, the studio underwent numerous cosmetic improvements including a refurbishment of the booth.

Located in the buzzing Highbury and Islington, The Yard is perhaps the most competitively-priced studio of its kind in North London. It has recently attracted bands and artists as diverse as Coldplay, Barry Adamson, Crystal Castles, The Pistolas and Eight Legs.

Miloco in Awards Land!
MPG, BRIT and Music Week recognition

The annual Awards season is always an exciting one, and this year we're thrilled to have a selection of clients, as well as our very own studios, getting nods at various different ceremonies.

Last month got started with the great news that Paul Epworth and Mark Rankin triumphed at this year's MPG Awards. Mark won the newly-unveiled 'Breakthrough Engineer of the Year' prize, and Paul scooped the coveted 'Producer of the Year' award. Paul and Mark have worked together at Miloco for a number of years with bands such as Friendly Fires, Kate Nash and Bloc Party, as well as Florence and The Machine whose debut album Lungs they tracked in The Pool last year.

Florence herself of course continued her rich vein of success at this year's BRIT Awards, by bagging the top prize of 2010 'Album of the Year', for the previously mentioned Lungs, and while a packed out Earls Court raised a glass to a modern classic, it also rolled back the years to celebrate an older one, when Oasis' (What's The Story) Morning Glory?, which was mixed in the studio now known as The Engine Room, was voted 'Best British Album of the last 30 years'.

Finally, we've had some of our very own studios gain approval at the forthcoming Music Week Awards, where Assault & Battery 2, The Pool and The Chairworks have all been shortlisted for the 'Studio of the Year' gong. Whilst we shall of course remain impartial to the result of that particular award on the night, you don't have to be! You can vote online for your favourite studio (we trust you to pick one of ours!!), by clicking the following link:
