Instigate Debate

McConnell, Barat and The Reverend campaign for the end of "tabloid culture"

15th Aug 08

My, aren't our clients setting a good example. A selection of the nation's most activist musicians have grouped for a new campaign, 'Instigate Debate', which encourages people to stamp-out Britain's celebrity and image obsessions, and to take more of an interest in the country's social and political issues.

Three Miloco clients are involved in the campaign: Babyshambles' Drew McConnell, Dirty Pretty Things' Carl Barat and Reverend and the Makers' John McClure.

The idea involves a competition asking participants to send in video clips of them discussing socio/political topics with public figures (note, NOT, "celebrities"!!). The winning entry will win an exclusive one-off gig in their own living room by Barat and McClure. So, having proved your aptitude for shunning the famous for being famous, and instead engaging them in serious topics which affect us all, you then are handed the privilege of gawping at a couple of 'public figures' in your very own living room. MMmmmmmm...

"We are asking people not to ask public figures for autographs or film them surreptitiously with their mobile phones," Instigate Debate have stated.

"But to ask them if they can film, then ask socio/political questions, rather than next album/merchandise/love life stuff."

Anyhoo, the website Instigatedebate.com, will be up and running tomorrow (16th August) and will see the likes of Barat, McClure and McConnell, discussing anything from police corruption to the NHS with pals Ricky Wilson, Alan McGee, Suggs, Jon Snow and George Galloway.

It is believed that this weekend's V Festival will see many other artists support the campaign.
