MIA launches NEET Records
25th Sep 08

The ever-enterprising
MIA has dived into her next project, and launched her own label. NEET Records, which stands for
"Not in Education, Employment, Training", and which also spells 'Teen' backwards, has signed its first artist, Baltimore
rapper
Rye Rye, whose debut album is being produced by MIA herself.
Talking about the concept of the label, MIA explained "... basically the philosophy: drop-out teens, I sign 'em!". She went on,
"All my teenage-angsty kind of songs go to her (Rye Rye), and then mine are the sophisticated, mature, grown-into-a-woman type
songs".
It is believed that during the formation of NEET Records,
Santogold was strongly linked with signing a deal with the label, but a release-schedule
clash between her debut album,
Santogold, and MIA's 2007 record
Kala ruled out a team-up.
31 year-old MIA came to musical prominence in 2004 through file-sharing her singles 'Galang' and 'Sunshowers'. She is also an accomplished
Graphic Designer, Visual Artist, Photographer, and Music Video Director. Her most recent visit to Miloco was in September 2008 when she came to The Square.
