Russell Fawcus
Interface Engineer
Further Details: click here.
Russell started playing violin at age 4, but by the end of the 90's he was playing violin, piano, synths, guitars (and anything else he could get his hands on) in bands. This resulted in his first studio experience in 1999, on the other side of the glass - he was addicted.
So in 2003 he had landed his first studio job as an assistant engineer in a small, all analogue studio in Melbourne, Australia, which would kick start his love of tape machines and all things analogue. Then in 2005 he moved to Sing Sing Recording Studios in Melbourne, where he began working with and learning from some of the best engineers & producers in the world such as Jim Abbiss, Mark Howard, David Bianco & James 'Bonzai' Caruso. Having learnt his craft on Neves, SSLs, Tape & Pro Tools he is happy to utilise either analogue or digital formats to make records, but loves to combine the two, harnessing the advantages of both worlds.
By 2006 Russell had taken the leap and started working as a freelance recording/mix engineer demonstrating a natural technical ability as well as an incredibly calm & patient dedication to his projects. As a talented musician as well, he has also arranged for and played on many of the records he's worked on.
Since arrivingin the UK in 2008 Russell has been working constantly, recently engineering a new record for The Fall with producer Ross Orton, while continuing his work with Jim Abbiss on numerous projects.
