Terminal Studios
Friends of Miloco Profile, May 2007

#

Built in Elephant & Castle in the late 1970s by Tony McGrail to serve as a private practice space for his band, it wasn't long before Terminal was serving as a rehearsal room to the public. As South London's only open rehearsal space at that point, business was soon flourishing prompting Terminal to move premises where it added a 24-track recording studio to its facilities. But as technology changed and equipment became more affordable to musicians, the recording studio was sadly forced to close as a business. Tony would continue to use it for his personal interests, while his then-partner Charlie Barrett took over the rehearsal rooms, moving Terminal to a new premises on Bermondsey Street, where it stands to the day.

Terminal continued to evolve in the services it provided, and over the years added to its primary purpose as a rehearsal space; an equipment hire service, storage space, a backline equipment shop, repair service, and the supply of personnel for both tours and sessions. Renowned for its sanctuary-like status, Terminal has seen over 5,000 artists put it to use over its 28 years, ranging from newly emerging artists, to contemporary stars such as Chemical Brothers, Groove Armada and Jamelia, to true rock legends such as David Bowie, Brian Wilson and Lemmy.

Miloco's own relationship with Terminal has grown over the years, especially as we have both established ourselves in Bermondsey. We are always keen to point each others' clients in opposite directions so they can sample the experiences of both The Terminal and Miloco, and our clients are often spotted stocking up on guitar strings and the like in Terminal's outstanding equipment shop.
