Introducing Alpha Centauri...
A brand new season brings another brand new studio. June's longed-for arrival saw Miloco unveil of another world-class SSL mix room, Alpha Centauri. This amazing studio is based in the Battery complex in Willesden Green, North-West London, and we are honoured to be running it in partnership with its owner, singer-songwriter Steve Rhodes. Alpha Centauri stands alone as the UK's best spec'd mix studio, no less. Here is a stunning, no-expenses-spared mix room boasting an unbelievable collection of equipment, built around an awesome SSL 4060 G+ Console with Total Recall, and an unbeatable combination of monitors including some Dynaudio M4+ custom built active speakers. It goes without saying that the room comes with a top of the range Protools HD3 rig and a full complement of plug-ins. Besides being immersed in top-end gear, the beautifully crafted and furnished control room is supplemented by a well-sized isolation booth able to comfortably fit a drum kit. The studio benefits from natural daylight provided through a skylight, as well as an internal lighting system made up of cutting-edge LEDs, further enhancing the studio's sophisticated but soothing vibe... ... and to celebrate the opening of this groundbreaking studio, we are putting out some amazing launch offers that simply cannot be missed. For the months of June and July, Alpha Centauri shall be going out at a 40% reduction fee of £ 510 / day discounted from the standard book-rate of £ 800 / day. The offer strictly applies for only June and July, so to avoid disappointment get in touch soon to book a session! Free trial days may also be available for producers and engineers wanting to take the studio for a test-drive, so please get in touch with Vicki at the office on 0207-232-0008, or email vicki@miloco.co.uk. This month our probing spotlight has landed on The Garden - why after undergoing a hefty refurb program over the last several months, we think our infamous tracking studio deserves some applause. As a whole host of regular Garden clients will testify to, there is really no place like it for tracking bands. Set within a vibey building in Shoreditch, The Garden occupies the basement level and provides a totally secluded hideout for artists to settle in, spread out and make their own. Famed for its vintage attributes, the studio's control room is based around a Neve V3 console with Flying Faders and Boxer T2 monitors. On the other side of a huge glass divide sits the incredible live room, notorious for its awesome recreation of the classic Led Zep drum sound. A dead booth provides an option for a completely different sound from the live room, and a versatile corridor and quirky coalbunker are also on hand to serve as additional amp recording areas. Recent refurbishment work includes a fresh paint job throughout the studio, some brand new carpets in the control room, and some very hip wall hangings adding some more flavour to the joint. We've also installed a projector in the control room pointing through to the live area and creating a whole host of cool lighting effects. It all amounts to The Garden's ever-increasing status as one of London's coolest and most popular band tracking studios, which is reason in itself for you to scurry on down to EC2 to book out some session time. For bookings and enquiries call Vicki at the Milloco office on 0207-232-0008, or email vicki@miloco.co.uk Check out The Garden's official webpages: www.miloco.co.uk/studios/garden.php.
Studio HighlightsWhilst our exciting ventures into pastures new continue to thrill us all, the old guard of Miloco studios never fails to produce a rip-roaring show every month of the year. May saw another fantastic turnout of musicians, producers and engineers across our many studios in London. Who were they? Let us tell you... The Engine Room
Audio Bullys kept their April session rolling to kick-start a memorable May in our
flagship studio. Interface producer/engineer Steve Dub was, as always, master of the
faders. The Parisian post-punk duo John & Jehn came in for a mixing session with engineer
Matt Pharrer, and then Mancunian rock gods Oasis booked out some time with
Chemical Brothers' Tom Rowlands and Interface's Steve Dub. Tom and Steve also
worked on some mixes for Oasis' fellow North-Westerners, Doves, and then came the
American metal lords Slipknot, mixing their newest album with producer
Colin Richardson and Interface engineer Matt Hyde.
The Toyshop
Britian's most famous Super Furry Animal Gruff Rhys got things going upstairs in The
Toyshop. Gruff was tracking and remixing some material with Interface engineer Ben Thackeray.
Following suit came polite metal act Fuck Shovel, who were laying down some
overdubs with engineer Rohan Onraet. Vanessa Brown saw out the rest of the month
in our first-class programming room. Vanessa was returning to work with Interface production-duo
Steve Dub & Segs, and Interface engineer Ben Thackeray.
The Square
The original Milo studio in Hoxton enjoyed a star-studded lineup last month. Gobbling up the
first few weeks of the month were those loveable rogues Madness, who continued their
lengthy session with producer Clive Langer and Interface engineer Finn Eiles.
It set the tone nicely for a firm-favourite of London's new musical generation, Jamie T,
who too continued his work alongside regular engineer Ben Coupland. Both acts kept
The Square reassuringly active throughout May.
The Garden
American indie-troupers Death Cab For Cutie got the ball rolling at The Garden.
Miloco's James Aparicio engineered the session for Death Cab. Then British grime pioneers
Roll Deep kept the ball rolling, when they made use of The Garden over two sessions with
Interface's Joe Hirst engineering. Some time was left-over for Madness to take a
trip down Shoreditch High Street, following their departure from The Square. Clive Langer
and Finn Eiles accompanied them.
The Yard
Our affordable SSL mix studio in Highbury had an exciting start to the month when the USA's
Black Kids rolled up with fast-rising mix engineer Alex Dromgoole. The
Subways came not long after in the fine company of Interface's master rock technician
Matt Hyde, and then French singer-songwriter Luna Paris checked in to mix some material
with Interface engineer Ben Thackeray. Towards the end of the month, Madness,
Clive and Finn took their next trip on the Miloco tour and headed North to
Highbury to begin the mixing stage of their new album.
Musikbox
Most of Musikbox's month was used up by electro-rocker Tommy Sparks who was mixing
material with producer/engineer Mike Crossey across several sessions. The gaps were
filled by, firstly, Gloria Vargas who were up in our Kentish Town mix room with producer
Lesley Laurence and engineer Ian Tregoning, and also Betty Steeles who
found some time to mix album tracks with producer/engineer Phill Brown.
Sofa Sound
First up in our West London SSL haven was Michael Price who was mixing album tracks in
the good company of Interface engineer Matt Foster. Following Michael and Matt came the
return of Phil Gould to Sofa Sound, and then Alligator popped in for several days
of mixing with producer/engineer Jim Lowe. Friends of the Bride drew the curtain on May
over in Chiswick. The band were mixing tracks with engineer Gareth Parton.
So another massive thank you to all those who came our way last month to make May a well and truly memorable one. June has arrived, and with more and more rooms to fill we you can be sure there'll be even more to report on, so keep your reading specs at hand...
