El Cortijo is not just a studio. Oh no no no no !! 'Tis a luxuriously relaxing, mountain-engulfed and sun-drenched, paradisal ocean-view residential retreat - cum - 5-star villa, pouting away on the awe-inspiring Andalucian mountain terrains, and featuring a menu of in-house cuisine that throws a cat amongst the Marks and Sparks pigeons!!

The studio's pretty hot too. Boasting an expansive collection of quality gear, plus a variety of live rooms centred around a Trident console and a Protools HD3 rig, it is set in the most creative environment imaginable, and is guaranteed to provide the maximum amount of inspiration to your, or your artist's, recording project.

And you could be there in a flash. All you need to do is book four weeks of studio time to earn yourself a well-deserved break, and enjoy this stunning Mediterranean villa all to yourself.

New Programming Room to let in Hornsey!

So what new additions to the realm do we have to tell you about this month? Well, we've sniffed out a fine little complex in Hornsey, North London, and have got our hands on another splendid programming suite to add to our squad of long-let rooms.

Following the same concept as our other programming suites, here we are providing a space for you to fill with your own gear. Simple as that! The room does come with a small vocal booth, air-conditioning, storage space and an alarm system connected to the central station. There is use of a shared kitchen with the 5 other rooms based in the building, and there is a shared rec room for clients to use.

Hornsey is wedged between the areas of Muswell Hill, Crouch End and Highgate, which positions it favourably for North London's great transport links in and out of the city. Both the Piccadilly line (Turnpike Lane), and Northern Line (Highgate, Archway) are nearby, meaning Camden and surrounding areas are minutes away by tube. The city centre and West End can be reached in less that 20 minutes.

This cracking little room is going out at a very competitive rate of £800 / calendar month +VAT. Enquiries are already coming in thick and fast, so give us a bell to put yourself in the running. Call Vicki on 020-7232-0008, or email vicki@miloco.co.uk.

Studio Highlights

April sees the London Marathon come to town - that annual athletic showpiece, where TV spectators the world-over gawk at the spectacular backdrop of Miloco studios old and new, as the race sweeps through the capital. There are nine Milocos in London after all, and last month not one was left twiddling their faders, in a period bombarded with fantastic musical activity. Here's March's studio highlights...

Miloco One - The Engine Room

March may have landed on the weekend, but that means nothing in studio land! Two rising stars occupied The Engine Room to start off with - Primary 1 with Interface's Joe Hirst, and Operator Please with producer Barny. Two days later the legendary Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - accompanied by a hefty entourage - took the special Miloco option to combine both our Engine Room and Pool studio using the bolt-on extensions connecting the two. Nick and the band were filming an internet documentary on new album, Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!. Other great names who came to Miloco 1 were Lost Valentinos in the company of producer Ewan Pearson and engineer Bruno Ellingham, as well as acclaimed TV composer Howard Goodall.

Miloco Two - The Toyshop

Interface management's super-duo Steve Dub and Segs worked their wonders in Miloco 2 for the first half of the month with the exciting new ragga artist Aynzli Jones. Later on in the month, producer Mike Hedges booked out the first of several Toyshop sessions with Zarina, and Interface engineer Matt Foster grabbed a day with Sasha. Wrapping up the month in our famous programming suite was Keith Saunders, who was working with Interface's Martin Jenkins.

Miloco Three - The Square

The King Blues were back for more in March, continuing work on their new album with Clive Langer and Interface engineer Finn Eiles. It was fantastic to see the Mercury-nominated Jamie T back within our sound-washed walls in March. Once again, Jamie was with engineer Ben Coupland, together sprinkling more of magic on some new tracks. Antother exciting young talent by the name of Ben Esser came to Hoxton towards the end of the month, with engineer Alex Dromgoole.

Miloco Four - The Garden

Good times were also being had over at Miloco 4. One of the hottest new bands around, Late of the Pier continued tracking their new album with producer Erol Alkan and engineer Jimmy Robertson. Interface's Iain Gore was in next with the brilliant Kid Harpoon. Pull Tiger Tail followed them a day later in the fine company of producer Barny, and then came Interface engineer Ben Thackeray who used a day to remix a Madness track. Bombay Bicycle Club worked over the last weekend of the month with the legendary Jim Abbiss producing and Richard Wilkinson engineering.

Miloco Five - The Yard

Polina was in our Highbury mixing suite at the start of the month, spending a couple of weeks with producer Alan Boyd and Interface engineer Finn Eiles. The King Blues relocated to The Yard after their Square session, making the trip with producer Clive Langer, and again, Finn Eiles. Other artists to use The Yard last month were Little Boots, who's session was engineered by Interface's Ben Thackeray, and Sasha who was again accompanied by our very own Matt Foster.

Miloco Seven - Musikbox

Musikbox wasn't missing out on any action either. Our Kentish Town Neve mix room played host to Portishead's Beth Gibbons in the first week of March. Beth was mixing with Interface engineer Joe Hirst. Long-term Miloco clients Audio Bullys popped in for a day's work with Interface's Steve 'Dub' Jones engineering, and then current disco-fave Sam Sparro made the trip to NW5 and got to work with producer Paul Epworth and Interface's Mark Rankin. Towards the end of the month, garage punks The Subways spent a few days with Interface engineer Matt Hyde up at Musikbox.

Miloco Eight - The Pool

Before the Nick Cave show took over our Leroy Street HQ, In Case of Fire squeezed in a few more days with producer Gil Norton and engineer Mark Rankin. The Bad Seeds were back for a day of tracking a week after their documentary film, and then our favourite goth-punks The Horrors returned to Miloco 8 with Interface engineer Ferg Peterkin. There was still time for the exciting new singer-songwriter Josephine Oniyama to grab a few days of tracking with producer Ben Hillier and Ferg Peterkin.

Miloco Nine - Sofa Sound

And so to the final hurdle of our studio marathon, Sofa Sound. Indie-balladeers Starsailor followed on from the end of February, working with producer Steve Osbourne and Interface's Ferg Peterkin for the first week of the month. The Vibrants bagged a day over in Chiswick with engineer Jonathan Shakovsky, and they were followed by that man again, Nick Cave, who took his seeds across to W3 from SE1. Finally, Leon Jean Marie had a day in Miloco 9 with engineer Ash Howes to mix a single.

Great bands, great month. It paved the way to snowy April in some style, and thus far we've already been rubbing shoulders with more brilliant musicians - but that's another story (next month's to be precise).

Why not join them? If you fancy booking time at Europe's leading recording studio group, give us a call at the office, and we'll have it arranged. Dial 020-7232-0008 and ask for Vicki. It's a doddle.

New Equipment Updates

We've enhanced ourselves, technically that is. New purchases of late include a magnificent UREI 1176 amplifier, which has found itself a place in our stunningly refurbished Yard mix room in Islington. The UREI is joined by a TL Audio C5021 valve compressor, and a Valley People dynamite compressor. Elsewhere, The Square has acquired itself a new Empirical Labs Distressor with Brit mode due to popular demand, as well as a Joe Meek Stereo Compressor, and there is now a new DBX 162 Compressor at Musikbox.

Stay posted on Miloco news for further additions to our studio equipment.
