August 10th and 5-a-side is approaching..

Well the time for waiting is officially almost over and Miloco's 5-a-side Tournament is under starter's orders, poised and ready to roll.

But! There's still time to get involved too. Some folk who talked a good game early doors have since run scweaming for their mammies, so there are a couple of slots up for grabs.

Battersea Park on Thursday 10th August is where and when you should be, so call us today to get involved... Here are some of the teams you'll be facing if you do:

Make My Day - aka The Flying Vs, they have a penchant for Dead Kennedys and pink outfits... Bella Union Records - hoping a cartwheeling centre forward will stick in the onion bag quicker than their tearjerk defenders ship 'em at the other end...FX Group - everyone's favourite rental company are busy trying to hire in some quality to improve on previous years' performances... Brighton Electric - Nirvana soundtrack kids under the improbable banner of The Carrot Munchers, They, like so many others, think they're destined for victory... Roll Deep - back again and back to make amends. It's surely only a matter of time before their genuine talent takes them to the podium... 679 Recordings - the reining French mushrooms are not back to defend their title against all comers. So maybe this year Virgin Records will come out victorious.

For the full rundown of the teams revving up for the chance to win champagne, medals, respect and free studio time, head along to www.miloco.co.uk/news/footie2006.php And to make sure you're in the thick of it yourself call Sophie this minute on 020 7232 0008. They'll be free beer and everything.

Miloco 8 - The Pool

Yes, another month passes and we open yet another marvellous Miloco studio for you all to get your teeth into.

It's called The Pool, is attached to our Leroy Street facility and is simply huge.

It's just perfect for tracking bands. With its 6 metre high ceiling and 80 square metres floor space, everyone can spread out, relax and set about creating the perfect vibe. And, needless to say, it sounds astonishing.

Currently it is being used as an open-plan recording environment, with an open plan control room built into the live space. We will shortly be able to offer it as an additional live space for our Neve Room and Toyshop clients. For now though why not call us to use one of the best open plan recording studios in the country. The equipment in the control room is astonishing. Detailed specs will follow soon....

The first few bands to make use of the space have been The Maccabees and Scully and reports back are that they love recording this way. No headphones play like a live band - what more could they want. Creativity has never been this good ! So for all you producers out there who are looking for a large space get in contact.

If you'd like to be one of the first to try out this great new addition to the Miloco suite of studios, get in touch with Sophie today on 020 7232 0008.

Studio Round-up

July was ace. Yet again we had a brilliant range of artists through the door, everyone from hotly-tipped unsigned artists to returning legends. Miloco now offer so many different flavours of studio there's not a genre out there we can't cater to with aplomb. Apart from freeform Latvian speed yodel-folk, that is. But Miloco 10's gonna take care of that...

Miloco One - The Neve Room

We began the month by saying au revoir to Miss Charlotte Hatherley as she wrapped up the Ben Hillier mix of her second album. Ben then returned later in the month with Brighton's The Maccabees after their session in our brand new studio, The Pool. Depeche Mode popped by for a couple of days of Ben's attention too. They were mixing a forthcoming single. And we then welcomed back Captain Steve Dub, in mixing Ali Love's forthcoming single with the help of Greg Fleming, before doing a day with Does it Offend You Yeah. Unklejam then spent a week mixing with Mike Spencer, Trivium snuck back in for a little while and last but far, far from least, Jarvis Cocker then came to mix some album tracks from his recent Hoxton Square sessions.

Take a peek at a CV here: Greg Fleming

Miloco Two - The Toyshop

The Toyshop started the month in the company of the excellent Mr Hudson & The Library. They were in with our man Matt Foster ahead of a month of sessions in Musikbox. Old pal Whitey was the next man in for a couple of sessions. He was alongside Finn Eiles, who then stayed around for Plan B before Cass Box popped in to say hi. Tom Wilcox (see his profile in the recent issue of MILC) then took advantage of Ben Thackeray's engineering skills for a day and, oh, and there was also time for the folk behind documentary Deep Water to pop along for some Toy-based action.

CVs, a lot of them: Matt F, Finn & Ben

Miloco Three - The Square

Meanwhile, in Hoxton... it was very, very busy. The Subways were back again, this time with young Finn Eiles. Next up, Bella Union's Siobhan Donaghy paid us another visit before Kish Mauve came by, again in search of a little specialist Finnbar attention. Kathryn James was the next soul along, in the company of producer Justin Grayston and engineer Ben Thackeray, before Yell Robot Yell clunked into town to unleash some primal streaming. Jez John likewise took advantage of Thackeray's engineering nous, before Gillian Glover popped by and The Penetrators did a few days with Alan Besozi producing and Joe Hirst at his side. Old friend Teo Miller was next in, and there was somehow still time for Mystery Jets, Jazzie B and Good Books to make themselves at home, with Finn, Joe and Finn respectively running the Pro Tools.

Another CV: Joe

Miloco Four - The Garden

Le Jardin played host to new buddy Tom Wilcox at the start of the month. He was with Gillian Glover ably backed by Ben Thackeray. Just back from recording in Milan, Italian stallions Casino Royale were mixing their album with Howie B, and with Joe Hirst engineering. Then it was time for the irrepressible Happy Mondays to feel the wonder or Howie B while they continued to mix their forthcoming album. Ben and Joe played tag team with the engineering duties. Bloc Party then came back to see us to record some strings with producer Garrett Lee, before the Mondays were back again with more bags of happiness to end the month.

Miloco Five - The SSL

Islington was full of quick fire Solid State sessions at the beginning of the month, with Betty Curse (and Yoad Nevo), Killa Kella, The Soho Dolls and Verbalicious all flying by. Then things changed pace for a few weeks of the lovely Jonathan Czerwik. He was in mixing some album tracks with Ruadhri Cushnan. Akira The Don then came by for a day with old mucker Matt Foster before Robert Harder popped in to mix some The Blood Arm and bring July to a clotted close.

Miloco Seven & Eight - Musikbox & The Pool

The two new boys on the block, Musikbox and The Pool, got their fair share of visitors too, with Mr Hudson taking up residence in Pete Heller's retro-synth heaven studio to record their album with our own Matt Foster. Meanwhile, The Pool got its feet wet in the company of the mighty fine The Maccabees, who were in for a week of tracking with Mr Ben Hillier. The new room proved a favourite with all concerned and so it is with great pride that we swing a bottle of bubbly into the wall and proclaim yet another Miloco studio launched!

And there we are, another month dispensed with and yet more great sessions in the can. They'll be loads more next month, of course, and I recommend heartily yours is one (or more) of them. We've got a home to suit for all of you, and you're all always welcome.

Don't forget we've got a sale on this month too! So call Sophie today on 020 7232 0008, or put it in visual words via sophie@miloco.co.uk

More MILC Man

There's no need for mineral supplements when MILC is around. Packed with so many essential nutrients, rumours abound in the States that top chemists are currently working on a new treatment 'for all illnesses ever' based on extracts of this quality periodical.

As if to prove a point, this month's issue is the very cream of the crop. It features an up close and personal chat with Howie B, the legendary PussyFoot owner, U2 collaborator, producer, DJ, clothes designer and soundtrack composer. Staff Profile gets to the bottom of the enigma that is Ben Thackeray (Sunshine Underground, Boy Kill Boy, Happy Mondays, The Spinto Band, Charles Campbell Jones, Madness & Tracy Thorn), while we help another good cause with Push The Button. There are also sneaky peeks into the life of Tom Wilcox and soon to be everywhere The Bellarosa Connection.

Oh, and MILC's joyfully celebrating its 1st birthday too, so please send appropriate candy-coloured gifts, balloons and cake to the usual address.

Ball spotted, studio time won!

Another great Miloco competition, another great prize.

The ever-popular Spot-The-Ball asked you to guesstimate where buck-toothed World Cup disappointment Ronaldhino had lost his sphere of influence, and there were no shortage of eager cursor clickers amongst you.

But the man with his mouse on the pulse of the Brazilian was none other than Andy Saunders - hearty congratulations, Andy. The lucky spotter wins a full day in our super SSL Room, recent home to the likes of Bullet For My Valentine, Akira The Don, Jonathan Czerwik, The Mighty Roars, Stars & Clouds, The Soho Dolls, Fightstar, MC Hard Kaur, Alexis Strum, Fields, Mystery Jets, Numinous, 4 Thieves, Whitey, The Darkness, Diggaz, Robert Harder, Datsuns, Jody Lei, Husky, Savanagh Knight and Yoad Nevo.

The SSL Room is in the heart of Highbury & Islington and lays claim to a G Series 48-channel desk, Pro Tools HD, Boxer T2 speakers and a wide range of outboard.

And, for this month only it's available for the knockdown rate of £300 per day! So get in touch today and bag some Solid State Larks for yourself...
