"Viva CasVegas!!" Miloco and Ryan Jarvis introduce The Chairworks...

How it's already the middle of August is anyone's guess!! We're pretty sure that, besides Usain Bolt, Jenson Button and the collapse of England's batting order in Leeds,
Miloco's schedule has been the hardest thing to keep up with recently....
West Yorkshire is in fact the location of our main story this month. Miloco has just launched an
incredible new residential studio, Chairworks, which is located in Castleford near Leeds. We have teamed up with musician and studio owner Ryan Jarvis, and are delighted to now
bring the very best residential in North East England to the Miloco group.
Based in a converted and newly-refurbished factory building, Chairworks meets all the criteria required for a fully thriving residential - an exceptional spec,
large live spaces, affordable accommodation and an out-of-the-way location. At the studio's core is a large daylit control room and two spacious, great-sounding recording rooms,
which are
complemented by four recording booths. The spec is highlighted by an SSL 4000G+ 48 channel console, Protools HD3 and a good choice of monitors, plus a large collection of the best dynamics,
mic-amps and effects processors.
In a separate building is a no frills quirky 5-bedroom accommodation, which can sleep upto eight people. The
building has its own self-contained kitchen, or bands can take advantage of the large recreation area /
kitchen in the studio building. The house has recently been spruced up from tip to toe to and so is a modern
and leisurely place to stay. Artists will love being here...

The Chairworks Studio...

The Chairworks is a magnificent, multi-functional studio environment. With a pristine control room spec'd to an extremely high standard, and a superb choice of recording areas
ranging from expansive live spaces to various booths and amp rooms, there are many recording and mixing possibilities available.
When you enter the studio you walk into a 500 sq ft control room with a high ceiling and natural light on two sides of the room. In the centre of the room is the SSL 4000G+ 48
channel console facing the two main live rooms. The monitoring includes Genelec 1032s, Geithain RL906ks and Dynaudio Acoustics M3A powered by Chord SP1032 amplifiers.
The racks are sat behind the console and contain large selections of top-end dynamics, mic-pres and effects processers. Protools HD3 operates on an Apple Mac Dual
Processor G5 with three Digidesign 192 interfaces and a choice of popular plug-ins.
The live area is split into two separate rooms, which together occupy 1250 sq ft of fully-daylit recording space allowing bands to completely spread out. The first room is the slightly
smaller of the two, and is accessed via some steps leading up from the control room to a set of sliding glass doors. There is a very large rectangular booth on the right-hand-side with
great views across the town. At the back of the first live room is the entrance to the second live room, but the doors between the rooms can be opened up to merge into one vast
tracking space if you choose. There is another booth in the corner of the second room, plus two large store cupboards which can double-up as amp booths.
At the opposite end of the studio are two more booths which offer even more recording options, and a stylish and relaxing chillout lounge / pool room, which
has a soundproofed window looking into the control room, so you can always stay involved with what's going on even during a time-out!

The Chairworks Residential...
Based in a separate part of the old factory building on the other side of the courtyard is the Chairworks residential. This 5-bedroom house was converted to provide an
unusual accommodation with bags of character, and plays a large part in creating a vibrant and lively atmosphere on your session.
The house is spread across an original 3-level layout comprising a ground floor and two first floor areas. It can accommodate upto eight people. There is a main kitchen, a number of lounge
areas, a variety of double, twin and triple bedrooms and numerous en suite and shared bathrooms, and that's all in addition to the large kitchen and lounge areas based in the studio block.
The house has been recently refurbished and modernised, and now serves as a very relaxing and comfortable place to stay.

Major Refurb Newsflash!! The Engine Room, The Bridge and The Pool are ready to rumble...
Many of you will no doubt know already that we've been working from within a building site over the last couple of months, as our main Leroy Street building
in SE1 has gone under the knife for some major surgery. Our former Engine Room has been reopened as two beautifully refurbished and multifunctional
studios, The Engine Room and The Bridge. Meanwhile The Pool has been completely re-invented with a brand new control room and drum booth. The official
presentation of our brand new babies will be next month, but here's a quick summary of what's happened so you know what's now on offer at Miloco HQ...
The Pool - 'To Be Or Not To Be'
The Pool has been completely rebuilt and is now totally revitalized, offering clients more choice, versatility and a whole new way of working. It now features a brand new control room
which rises above the studio's vast live space. The control room has been designed to maximise space and therefore not encroach too much on the Pool's live space. It is filled with
Ben Hillier's immense collection of vintage analogue gear, including a rare EMT console and stacks of outboard and microphones. Now engineers and producers can take advantage of Ben's
equipment and The Pool's incredible tracking space from behind closed doors. However the studio's new versatile design allows for the control room gear to be relocated and set up in the live
room, meaning extreme open recording can continue as it did before.
The live room has been completely refurbished, and now features a large drum booth at the far end. We have added brand new lighting, made numerous acoustic enhancements and have relocated
the entrance. It is now a beautifully presented, expansive and daylit tracking space which bands, producers and engineers will love recording in.

The Engine Room - 'Engine Room Calling Bridge'
The new Engine Room offers a fresh, contemporary and hugely enjoyable mix environment to work in. The control room has been cosmetically and acoustically refurbed with brand new lighting and
decor, and the Protools has been relocated from the room to reduce background noise. We have also enhanced the nearfield monitors with the addition of a new Bryston amplifier - the results
are immense!
The Engine Room's former live room has also been re-designed and built, and is now re-launched as 'The Bridge'. It now provides three very useable recording areas: a dead booth, live booth,
and larger recording area which is perfect for string quartets and drums. A secondary wall has been built to enhance the isolation between The Bridge and The Engine Room, providing an
exciting choice of mixing, tracking, overdubbing and programming combinations, and at a variety of competitive prices too...

The Bridge - 'Bridge Calling Engine Room'
The Bridge is a newly-reinvented and multifunctional studio offering a number of exciting ways to work. As you'll now have realised, it has been designed so that it can be used as a large
recording space in conjunction with The Engine Room located next door. However it can also operate as a standalone facility consisting of three different rooms - a main live room, live booth
and dead booth - which can be used whichever way the client chooses.
It has undergone a large acoustic and cosmetic refurbishment and is now beautifully presented with stunning burgundy panels, new halogen lights and a fresh coat of paint. Combined with The
Engine Room, clients will enjoy these 3 fantastic rooms with a spec that boasts a Neve VR60, top-of-the-range protools HD rig and world-class monitoring. However if you decide to use The Bridge
as a separate, free-standing studio, we will setup a Protools rig and invite engineers to bring in their own gear. You'll then have an overdub/editing/recording studio operating
completely independently, and at a much lower price!

Battery Suite Available for Short Period...
One of our programming rooms based at the Battery complex in Willesden Green is now available until the end of September. Here's a great
opportunity for anyone looking for their own space for a relatively short period. The room benefits from
having a separate booth and natural light and is a great space for writers, programmers, producers and musicians. Like all of our programming suites, we provide
you with the bare bones of the room, and invite you to fill it with your own gear. Elsewhere in the complex are three other programming rooms
and a selection of world class mix and tracking facilities, so there's plenty of creative vibe...

Go on... we'll be your friend if you'll be ours...
NDubz meet BBC at Fisher Lane!
Whilst on the subject of making friends, the BBC Switch Road Trip headed South the other day to hook up with NDubz, who have been down at our Surrey
residential Fisher Lane for several weeks. Annie, Grimmie and the rest of the BBC bus hung out with the band
and sampled some of the tracks they've been working on. On top of that, NDubz kindly showed them around
the place which they like to call '"Happy Land".

New Staff Alert!
We're pleased to announce that Chris Lambert joins us this month, so welcome on board Chris. He will be working in the office providing
general support, doing bits of admin, organising sessions, being the pool of knowledge for all things
concerning the upkeep of studios, and being generally an all-round pretty useful chap. He certainly won't be twiddling his thumbs, that's for sure.
You'll all get to know Chris soon!
His arrival coincides with the departure of a star player, Amelia Gully, who now returns to University after a year-long crash course in working in recording studios. So
we'd like to say a big thank you to Amelia for all her hard work and wish her all the best in everything she does in the future. We will truly miss your spectacular boots.
