Interface Producer and Engineer Management

Miloco's year is getting off to a soaring start, as we launch our brand new management company, Interface.

The hottest new producer and engineer roster around, Interface will be run by our previous studio manager, Sophie Rankin, who shall be supervising a dynamic group of young, up-and-coming and established producers and engineers, who between them have already clocked up Grammy awards, Mercury nominations, multi-platinum sales, and a wealth of experience working all over the world. The vast number of artists already featuring on the guys' CVs include the likes of Slipknot, Liberty X, Bloc Party, M.I.A., Razorlight and The Chemical Brothers.

The New Year launch of Interface was given an extra-special boost when the thriving production partnership of Steve 'Dub' Jones and Segs was added to the books. Joining them will be the following special and varied talents: Pete Hofmann, Matt Hyde, Mark Rankin, Finn Eiles, Matt Foster, Martin Jenkins, Ben Thackeray, Ferg Peterkin and Joe Hirst.

You can read up on all information about the producers and engineers on the Interface website: www.interfaceyourmusic.com, which includes comprehensive CVs, biogs and listening posts.

You can contact Sophie by emailing sophie@interfaceyourmusic.com or by phone on 020-7232-0008.

Happy New Year, and welcome back!!

Before we continue, we must take a moment to wish you all a very Happy New Year. We hope you all enjoyed the festive break (apologies to any people who may have bypassed such a thing!), and that there aren't too many cobwebs left hanging from your eyelids.

If there are however, perhaps we can help you in blasting them from existence! Miloco's nine studios are in full swing for the year ahead, and what's better is that our season of goodwill just never seems to end...

We are offering a LIMITED number of free trial days in any of our studios to established producers and engineers - an offer which you really should take us up on ASAP to sample the various delights of our array of studio facilities...

...and there are plenty now to choose from. In case you are still unaware, we now run two SSL rooms; our Yard room in Highbury/Islington, and Sofa Sound in Chiswick having teamed up with the studio's owner, legendary producer Hugh Padgham, in summer 2007. Our SSL contingent joins our arsenal of three first-class Neve rooms; The Engine Room in SE1, The Garden in Shoreditch, and Musikbox in Kentish Town; the original Milo tracking studio, The Square, and unit of private programming suites, The Market, both based in Hoxton; and finally our top-end programming room, The Toyshop, and extreme live tracking studio, The Pool, both also based in SE1.

Follow the link www.miloco.co.uk/studios for all the information you need on our studios.

To make a booking or enquiry for any of our rooms, please call Vicki at the office on 020-7232-0008 or email vicki@miloco.co.uk.

All the best for the year ahead. We look forward to working with you in 2008!!

Studio Highlights

While the majority will have just taken half a month off to indulge in drinking and eating excessively, wishing for a Merry Christmas and merely receiving a pack of 'day of the week' socks from Primark (speaking purely speculatively of course, ahem), we must not forget those people who aren't always able to celebrate with friends and family. Nor those, for that matter, who simply refuse to!!!

Here's a few picks from the studios in December...

Miloco One - The Engine Room

The Rascals are a name you should get very used to hearing this year. They were in our flagship Neve room at the start of last month with producer Ben Hillier and Interface engineer Ferg Peterkin. We had the pleasure of playing host to KT Tunstall and producer/engineer Rick Morris, and then Ferg was back for a few days to work with The RGBs. Blowing the last gasps of engine steam for 2007 were Charles Campbell-Jones and regular cohort, Interface's Ben Thackeray, and Kit Ashton who wrapped things up with producer Mike Crossey.

Miloco Two - The Toyshop

Interface's new production supergroup, Steve Dub and Segs setup shop in Miloco Two last month, primarily working with the very exciting new artsists that are Aynzli Jones and Vanessa Brown. You'll hear much more on them throughout the year. Ferg Peterkin did however find a day to nip upstairs for a day's work with Josh Weller.

Miloco Three - The Square

Our Hoxton Square studio was frantically gearing up for the holiday season in early December with Eliot & Tim in with Interface's Ben Thackeray, Kish Mauve with engineer Jim Eliot, Mystery Jets with producer Erol Alkan, Audio Bullys and The Clik Clik with Interface's Pete Hofmann all checking in to Miloco Three in quick succession. While the world began to purely focus on their mince pies and mulled wine, the likes of Broken Wave, Lovvers, Noah and The Whale and Museum Tigers were keeping The Square company.

Miloco Four - The Garden

Raygun were first in our prestigious Shoreditch tracking room in December, accompanied by producer/engineer Liam Howe. Straight after them came Black Budd and producer Mike Crossey who made good use of Miloco Four for over a week. Suzerain have been showing their faces here and there lately, and they came back for a day in December with producer/engineer Steve Lyon. Seeing out The Garden's year were Reinstated, who came fully equipped with engineer Gareth Matthews.

Miloco Five - The Yard

Our newly re-christened SSL mix room at Highbury Corner began the month with Crystal Castles grabbing a few days with engineer Alex Dromgoole. Shortly after, streetwise cat owners were kicking themselves for not naming their kittens better, as Felix Da Housecat swaggered through the gates and into The Yard, accompanied by producer Damien Mendis and Interface engineer Martin Jenkins. It was also great to have The Furys and engineer Andy McKim-Parker visit Miloco Five, and to also welcome back Harry J Cena who was once again in the good company of Interface engineer Matt Foster.

Miloco Seven - Musikbox

Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong were preparing themselves for a big year ahead in Musikbox last month. They were mixing tracks with both Mike Crossey and Interface engineer Finn Eiles for a few days in December. Before coming to The Engine Room, Charles Campbell-Jones and Interface's Ben Thackeray were grafting away up in our Kentish Town Neve room. Audio Bullys also grabbed themselves a day last month in Miloco Seven.

Miloco Eight - The Pool

December saw The Pool wind down a truly magnificent year in 2007, in which we had all sorts of fine musical talent enjoying the room's extreme tracking capacity, amongst them: Arctic Monkeys, Kate Nash, Franz Ferdinand, Jarvis Cocker and The Courteeners. The Horrors came to visit regularly too, and it was a pleasure to have them once again last month when they used up several days for some 'merry' music making!

Miloco Nine - Sofa Sound

Finally to our West London hangout, Hugh Padgam's luxurious Sofa Sound studios in Chiswick. Preparing for its first full year under Miloco representation, last month Sofa Sound housed the likes of The Draytones, who were accompanied by producer and engineer James Lewis, and The Dirty Disco who came with another exciting young producing talent, Iain Gore.

And so there we were. Finally, we could relieve our upper limbs from their year-long positions on keypads, mixing desks, guitar strings and drum sticks, and link them joyously whilst erupting into a heart-wrenching rendition of Auld Lang Syne as a mark of the end to one twelvemonth and indeed the beginning of the next.

So back to work, and if there was anyone who knew that the holiday was over better than the rest, it would have to be our beloved diary which is already filling itself up and bearing the weight of many exciting sessions in the not-so-far-off future.

New EMT Console and 2" Machine in The Pool

The Pool's army of vintage gear has a new soldier in its ranks. Having been collected from Berlin by Ben Hillier and Ferg Peterkin, a very cool EMT A100 mixing desk was installed in our unique tracking studio over the Christmas break. Staying true to the vintage feel of The Pool, this classic 30 channel mic/line mixer with 8 group outlets, 2 reverb send/returns and a stereo bus limiter will enhance the experience of recoridng onto tape in the room.

And the additions don't stop there. Keeping this very handy console company will be a new Otari MTR-90 2" Machine which we have acquired due to the ever-increasing demand to record onto tape in the studio.

The Ruts return!!

As you now know, Interface management has recently acquired the talents of producer Segs to its roster, and as some of you will also know, Segs established his career playing bass for legendary punk rockers The Ruts, which now means that we have a direct interest in all things Ruts!! So we are delighted to inform you that on Friday January 25, to celebrate The Ruts' 30th anniversary, there will be a special one-off gig at the Shepherds Bush Empire where friends of the band will perform a selection of their favourite Ruts tunes, with all proceeds from the event going to the Macmillan Cancer Trust. Artists already confirmed to play the event include Miloco clients Alabama 3, TV Smith and The Glass Heroes.

The event will be presented by Black Flag legend Henry Rollins, who as it just so happens has teamed up with The Ruts to make a new download version of the band's 1979 classic single, Babylon's Burning, which can be bought at www.indiestore.com/theruts.
