A Very Happy New Year to you all! This January, we've found the perfect antidote for all your festive hangovers - the launch of another
world class recording studio! Angelic Studios is an excellent new residential studio located near Banbury in Northamptonshire. We are honoured to be representing Angelic in partnership
with producer and former-Jamiroquai keyboardist and songwriter, Toby Smith.
Hidden away in the heart of rural England, Angelic was built in 2009 to provide artists with a completely exclusive and idyllic setting to record in. Based in two beautiful
farm buildings, it has been converted and refurbished to perfection. The studio is built around a large and spacious control room designed by Sam Toyoshima, and features an
SSL SL8072 G+ console, powerful monitoring and an amazing collection of outboard including many original vintage neve modules. There are two large recording rooms offering a
fantastic range of sounds, an additional isolation booth, and exceptional collections of rare guitars, bass guitars, amplifiers, keyboards, mics and pedals.
In a separate building is the 6 bedroom accommodation. There is a large kitchen with all the mod cons, and a huge,
relaxing lounge complete with home cinema, table tennis, PS3 and dining area. The house has been furnished and decorated in a chic and stylish manner to ensure
maximum comfort for Angelic's guests... Welcome to the UK's latest and greatest residential retreat...

The Angelic Studio...
The studio at Angelic is a formidable recording and mix environment. At the heart of the studio is an expansive control room, which is centred around a pristine SSL SL8072 G+ with
Total Recall and Ultimation; the same desk which used to live in Townhouse Studio 2. It is joined by a great selection of monitors: ATC SCM200s, Barefoot MicroMain 27s, Yamaha
NS10Ms and Auratones, powered by Quad and ATC amps. Sat behind the desk is the outboard, including many Dynamics, EQs and Effects. Of particular note are the vintage Neve
mic-pres: 4 x 1084s, 6 x 1100s and 8 x 33114s. At the back of the control room is the Protools HD3 rig with three 192 interfaces and two Apogee Convertors, providing 48 inputs and
56 outputs. There is also a large cupboard where you'll find Toby Smith's incredible collection of keyboards and guitar pedals. Have a browse and take your pick!
To the right of the control room is the main live space. This is a spectacular recording room with a towering gabled ceiling and original wooden beams. The room comprises a
beautiful oak floor and 3 tall stone walls that produce a fantastic live sound. There are two very large windows looking out to the country surroundings - draw
the large curtains and you can dampen the acoustics to achieve drier acoustics. The room houses a drum kit and stunning white Yamaha g3 Grand Piano.
Toby has also had some special customised absorption panels made up, offering an assortment of bass traps and full range absorption.
On the opposite side of the control room is the second live space. It too benefits from ample floor and ceiling space, and plenty of daylight.
The room is a guitarist's dream. It is filled with many beautifully maintained models by the likes of Fender and Rickenbacker, and amps by Ampeg, Fender, Marshall and Vox.
There is also a Yamaha Upright Piano in the room. The second live room features a large carpet and several fabric panels for a more
controlled sound, however it still features the building's original stone walls and high ceiling for a live feel. There's a magnificent collection of microphones at the studio,
featuring AKG, Coles, Neumann, Royer and many more.
Opposite the second live room is a good size isolation booth, which is perfect for vocal recording but is also a very suitable alternative for tracking guitars. As with the rest of
the studio, the booth benefits from clear visibility to all the other rooms through a number of large soundproof windows, which enhance the studio's open and expansive feel....
The rest of the studio building comprises a small kitchen area, and large upstairs lounge area with pool table, luxurious furniture and a Minstrel's Gallery overlooking the main
tracking room.

The Angelic Residential...
During your session you will stay in a luxurious 6-bedroom residence located across the farmyard. The 4-bedroom guesthouse
occupies most of the building, with a smaller 2-bedroom annex for Angelic staff. On entering the house you walk into a charming redbrick porch which features a wood burning
stove - the perfect greeting after a long winter's day of recording! There are two twin rooms on the ground floor, which have been
stylishly furnished and decorated for maximum comfort. They share a bathroom located at the end of the hallway.
On the first floor is a modern, open-plan kitchen where your meals will be cooked. There are two more bedrooms on the
first floor containing double beds, one of which is a spectacular 4-poster! There is another shared bathroom at the end of the landing.
On the other side of the kitchen is the real showstopper of the Angelic residential; the vast lounge and recreation room.
In this stunning living space you'll find all
of the following: home cinema screen accompanied by surround sound speakers, additional flat-screen plasma TV with Sky, PS3, Table-Tennis table, Yamaha CP80 Electric
Grand Piano for late-night sing-alongs, and large dining table. You can lounge around on some luxurious sofas and armchairs, as well as two giant beanbags!
The accommodation has been brought up to a top-end, modern standard to provide guests with a slice of luxury during their stay.
However much of the historic charm of this beautiful farm house has been maintained, such as the original windows, floors, doors and ceiling beams. There is also a number of
antique items of furniture, and a large collection of original paintings throughout the house.

Toby Smith is the owner of Angelic Studios. He is currently producing the second album by The Hoosiers, who he also manages.

Hoxton Suite 3 available...
If you fancy your own private studio space this New Year, we may just have the ticket...! Hoxton Suite 3 has become available for rent. This is one of
our single room long-term let spaces and is situated in our Hoxton Market premises. The room is daylit and comes with a large storage cupboard and use
of a shared toilet. The studio is situated on the first floor and benefits from 24-hour access. It has a red-care alarm installed which is monitored
around the clock. It would be well-suited for a writer / programmer.

Coming Soon...
The Relaunch of The Square and The Yard
Here's a quick teaser of what's around the corner at Miloco. The Square and The Yard are currently undergoing
a big revamp and will be relaunched soon. We have taken the SSL G-Series console out of The Yard,
and shipped it over to Hoxton where it has now been installed in The Square, making the room an amazing mix suite
as well as a great tracking space. The console is one of Olympic's early G Series desks and comes with 50 G-Series
channels but has an E-Series centre section.

Meanwhile, The Yard is being converted into our affordable "Mixing in the Box" room. Alternatively you can use the space for
programming or editing. The Yard will feature a powerful 32 output Protools HD3 Accel rig with a good selection of plug-ins
with monitoring being provided by Boxer T2 speakers, NS10 Studios or Genelec 1031's. The monitoring is controlled by a PreSonus Central Station.
Throw in a good selection of hardware outboard and some mic amps for recording and the room is well setup for overdubs.

MPG Awards 2010
We'd like to raise a glass to those Miloco clients and friends who have been nominated at this year's Music Producers Guild Awards,
which will take place at the Cafe de Paris on February 11. There's a great showing of candidates who have worked with us over the last year,
and we'd like to wish them all the best on the night...
Nominated for the Producer of the Year Award, are Jim Abbiss, who produced The Temper Trap's Conditions at Assault & Battery 2
last year, and Paul Epworth, who produced Florence and the Machine's Lungs, and Jack Penate's Everything Is New in The Pool and
The Engine Room.
Paul's longterm collaborator, Mark Rankin is nominated for Best Breakthrough Engineer for his work alongside Paul, as well as his work with Plan B.
It's also great to see an old friend in Jimmy Robertson up for the award. Last year Jimmy brought worked with O Children and Francis and the Lights at
Miloco.
Lastly, congratulations are in order once again for Florence and The Machine, who are up for yet more recognition in the Best Album award, for Lungs,
and Best Single with 'Rabbit Heart'. Florence tracked her debut album in The Pool in the first half of 2009.
So good luck to all of the above, and of course the other nominees across the board at this year's ceremony. We look forward to reporting
on the night in next month's bulletin...
