Miloco 5-a-side Football Tournament 2006
Thursday 10th August is the date for your diaries, when there'll be a total of 16 teams battling it out for the honour of being crowned 2006 Champions. Please be aware that the places are being booked up fast already! 2004 champions V2 were edged off the podium last year by a rampant 679 Recordings, but surely the plucky Virgin offshoots can't make it three finals in a row? Meanwhile, Roll Deep are chomping at the bit to make up for their early exit in 2005 and Universal are surely still seething at getting chucked out at the quarter final stage. As always there'll be lashing of refreshments and oodles of prizes, including: 1st Place - a day in The Neve VR Room 2nd Place - a day in The Garden 3rd Place - a day in The SSL Room There'll also be champagne and the all essential trophies and medals. It's always a laugh and you're all welcome, so get in touch with Sophie today to register your team. To find out more follow this link. Best of luck! There's still time to win studio time!
Continuing the footyball theme, don't forget you've still got the opportunity to win a day in our marvellous SSL
Room (complete with new Pro Tools rig and Waves Platinum plug-ins - see side article 'SSL's new Pro Tools rig...')
via our Spot The Ball competition.
We've had some pretty good guestimates so far, but we reckon there's still room for some sharp shooter to nail the prize. At the time of writing, a young contestant by the name of Saunderz is sitting pretty in top spot. So for those of you who've already tried their luck, click the link followed by 'view results' and see if you've made it into the Top 25 too. But if you haven't had a go yet and think you're man enough [sound of gauntlet hitting floor] to put your cursor where your mouth is, just click and tell us where you think absentminded Ronaldinho has lost his ball. Dead easy. Recent beneficiaries of The SSL Room's Solid State Lusciousness include: Fightstar, MC Hard Kaur, Bullet For My Valentine, Levy, The Mighty Roars, Stars & Clouds, The Soho Dolls, Alexis Strum, Fields, Mystery Jets, Numinous, 4 Thieves, Whitey, The Darkness, Diggaz, Datsuns, Jody Lei, Husky, Savanagh Knight and Yoad Nevo, The link: Is this a ball I see before me? Ice-cool Hoxton
As ol' blue eyes memorably crooned, "The autumn wind, and the winter winds, they have come and they have gone.
Do-dooby-doo, do-dooby-doo."
And he was right, you know. So - as if Hoxton weren't already cool enough - we've gone and treated it to a brand new air-con unit. We decided we couldn't bear the thought of you creative sorts losing a drop of your precious bodily fluids, so you're now able to sample the wondrous tracking environment of The Square in an assuredly chilled atmosphere. Quiet, efficient and unobtrusive, the swanky Airwell system has arrived just in time for summer and - combined with our ludicrously attractive rates - is sure to make this room an even better place to while away the hours and knock out some tasty rock and roll. Recent Hoxtonites include: The Servant, Jarvis Cocker, The Rain, Super Furry Animals, Freeform Five, Mr David Viner, Hansom Pilot, Plan B and The Futureheads. To take a closer look at Hoxton Square click here. Studio Round-upMiloco came over all Merry in June this month. Yet more splendiferous sonic sorts sashayed over to our shimmering selection of seven top studios, and turned out tonnes of top tunes to boot. Miloco One - The Neve Room
It was a game of two halves in our flagship mix environment this month. The first 45 were dominated by the
ongoing session for the biggest young guns in metal, Trivium. Marshaled by producer Colin Richardson and
engineer Matt Hyde they were busy working on the final mixes for their forthcoming third album on Roadrunner.
After oranges and a quick tactical shift, Charlotte Hatherley emerged for the second half, mixing her album ably
supported by the midfield dynamo that is Ben Hillier.
Take a peek at a CV here: Matt H Miloco Two - The Toyshop
There was period of mourning in The Toyshop as we at last came to the end of our time with Jamie T. Bon voyage
Jamie. However, we soon cheered up with the arrival of Miss Charlotte Hatherley. She was in tracking for a
week with Mr Hillier en route to their long term stay in The Neve. Old friend Whitey was then back with us
for a few days before the delightful M Craft, fresh from recent Silver & Fire success, brought the month
to a close.
Miloco Three - The Square
Down in Hoxton, The Servant came to the end of their month-long residency to be replaced by The Rain. They were
in with producer Teo Miller and Miloco's Martin Jenkins. There was then a flurry of activity as first The Super
Furry Animals then post-Pulp Jarvis Cocker then Freeform Five popped in for sessions, the latter with our main
man, Pete Hofmann. Then June came to an end in the rarified company of Fiction's Alberta Cross, with Finn Eiles
engineering.
A raft of quality CVs: Martin, Pete & Finn Miloco Four - The Garden
Down in The Garden, fresh from their barnstorming show at The Great Escape, The Bellarosa Connection got stuck
into some debut material, produced by our own Finn Eiles. Next up Sony BMG's flighty Airmen spent a couple of
days tracking with Dan Swift, while the talented tonsils of Tor came in for a little topnotch mixing at the
hands of Pete Hofmann. The Garden's delicate flowers then wilted somewhat as those Yank metallers Trivium, took
time out from The Neve Room to unleash some dark, gravel-toned menace alongside Colin Richardson and Matt Hyde.
But they quickly re-bloomed in time for none other than the Happy Mondays. They took up residence for a week of
mixing album tracks with Howie B, ably engineered by Ben Thackeray. Benjamin then stuck around to engineer a bit of
piano-tinged Tom Wilcox too, and with that the month's Gardening was done.
A CV you haven't had the chance to see yet: Ben Miloco Five - The SSL
Up in Highbury the month got started in the company of those x-rated playthings, The Soho Dolls. They were back
in mixing single tracks with Robert Harder. Next up, we had two weeks in the company of the mighty The Mighty
Roars, in mixing their album with Chris Sheldon as ringmaster. We also had a visit from Members of the Public
and The Littl'ans, the latter again in the company of Robert Harder. Mr Ben Drew, Plan B, then took time out
from promoting his debut LP and came back to see us for a day in the company of Finn Eiles. Then Chris Sheldon
spotted that Mr Harder had had two goes, wanted the same for himself, and so returned for a session with the
denim/waterway cross-over band, Levy.
Miloco Seven - Musikbox
The latest addition to the Miloco family is getting a mention in dispatches a little earlier than anticipated as we
got a session in there as soon as we opened the doors. Bumblebeez spent two weeks in the house-that-Pete-Heller-built
in the company of producer/engineer double act of the moment James Ford and Jimmy Robertson.
And there you have it, my dears. Miloco's raft of studios recording and mixing all the tunes for all the artists you could ever wish to hear. If you fancy benefiting from our ever-expanding range of studios and delightfully talented in-house engineers and producers you know who to call. What! You don't? Tsk. Well, it's Sophie, and she's waiting for you on 020 7232 0008. You can also drop her a line via sophie@miloco.co.uk, |

Miloco 5-a-side Tournament 2006
New staff alert
The Miloco canteen's getting full to bursting nowadays. We've now welcomed another splendidly talented individual to our fold, in the form of young Mark Allaway. Mark's joined us as a runner/assistant and if you need an insight into the quality of his mind and his dedication to results, he recently won 'best of show' for creating a new method of musical notation that constructs soundscapes according to train engine data. Now come on, hands up if you were expecting that sentence.
SSL's new Pro Tools rig with Waves Platinum plug-ins
Our SSL Room is pleased as punch these days. Not only has it got a brand spanking new Pro Tools rig - an HD3 Accel, with 48-outputs - but we've also treated it to a host of Waves Platinum plug-ins too. As ProAudio Review swooned, "None of Waves' competitors' product lines can compare to the sheer breadth, depth and overall quality of the Platinum Bundle." The rig itself utilises the power-on-demand capabilities of three dedicated DSP cards connected via Digidesign's proprietary TDM II bus architecture. The system also includes all the standard Digidesign plug-in bundles and many others including Sony Oxford EQ, Filterbank, TC Master X and Ultratools.
Lovely new 23" Apple monitor in The Neve Room
Big apples. We love 'em and top doctors recommend 'em. So we've invested in a delightfully huge and swanky flat screen monitor for our flagship mix environment, The Neve VR Room. So if you like your visual fruit to boast widths up to 58.4 cm or 0.00036 of a mile, pop along to our heavenly mix establishment and have a peep. Oh, and there's one in our SSL Room as well, keeping the new Pro Tools HD3 rig company. Monster metallers Trivium and Colin Richardson were the first to test run this hunk of aesthetic engineering and they pronounced it 'some pretty good shit.' Who are we to disagree?
