Win Studio Time at The Camden Crawl!!
In its first year of activity, Indie Idle has been set up to give recognition to the best unsigned bands in the country. Full details of how to enter can be accessed at the web addresses below, but to cut a long story short, the bands who reach the semi-final will play at an official Camden Crawl venue on Thursday 19, the three finalist will then go onto play on Friday 20, and the eventual winners will be given a free day at one of Miloco's fantastic studios to record a professional demo of their competition-winning tunes. That is of course after they have ingested and recovered from a competition-winning amount of booze to celebrate their triumph. No sick buckets in our studios!! For info on how to enter Indie Idle at The Camden Crawl go to www.myspace.com/thecamdencrawl www.thecamdencrawl.com Studio Round-upWe've all been scratching our heads wondering quite where February went! We hope its down to the fact that we've been busy, and not that our entire collection of speakers are so battered that the resulting ear drum damage has led to mass brain cell loss, which in turn has caused a severe collective memory disorder. No. We're sure it's the former, and this is why... Miloco One - The Neve Room
Things kicked off for The Neve with Natalie Imbruglia, who was in with producer Ben Hillier and engineer Dave
McCracken, mixing three brand-spanking-new album tracks. Miloco's Ferg Peterkin assisted the 5-day session. Those sinful
Sinners were in with Miloco engineer Martin Jenkins offering his services, and then the world-conquering Lady
Sovereign popped her head round the corner (and mixed a b-side whilst she was at it) with producer/engineer Adam Pendse.
The latter half of the month saw The Neve occupied by Glasgow's most anticipated band since Franz, The Dykeenies, who were in
with the loveable (not to mention legendary) Dave Eringa, mixing forthcoming album tracks. Laurence Aldridge assisted.
Two of our wonderful staff's CVs: Martin Jenkins & Ferg Peterkin Miloco Two - The Toyshop
The Toyshop's schedule has been choc-a-block throughout February. The ball got rolling on the with a two-day session with Donovan
and Miloco engineer Matt Foster. The Audio Bully's were in with Mark Allaway assisting, and then from one set of
superstars to the next, The Chemical Brothers and Steve Dub re-entered the studio that launched their careers. Ali
Love was back in with trusty producers Steve Dub and Seggs with engineer Ben Thackeray, and worked on three
sessions. Finally Wolfgang Alchholz and We Rock Like Girls Don't came in for a day-long session each.
Another CV here: Matt Foster Miloco Three - The Square
The jazz-pop songstress Georgina Carter was first in The Square with producer Jake Carter and Miloco engineer Martin
Jenkins. Four tracks from Georgina's forthcoming album were being mixed. Next in were Breaker who arrived at The Square
for three days of demo tracking with engineer Daniel Rejmer and assistant Dean Curtis. The following day Whitey was
in with engineer Robert Harder and Miloco assistant John Purcell, tracking two singles, and then the acclaimed punk-popsters
The Violets came in for four days mixing the drum tracks for their impending LP. The legendary Bobbie Gillespie took over The

Charles Campbell-Jones and Miloco engineer Ben Thackeray were mixing 4 album tracks. The remainder of the month was seen

And another CV for you: Ben Thackeray Miloco Four - The Garden
Those strapping young indie lads, Battle, began activitities in The Garden on the with producer/engineer Jeff Knowler and
Miloco assistant John Purcell. They were in to mix seven album tracks. It was a pleasure to be in the company of
Ms Dynamite when she was in The Garden filming. We Rock Like Girls Don't were mixing a single with Miloco's excellent
Finn Eiles engineering, and then Casino Royale and legendary producer Howie B were getting down to some remixing for
three days. It was their first of first of two Garden sessions in February. The sportiest of spices, Melanie C, was in mixing
a single with producer Mark Lane, and the indie-disco of Foals was pulsating through the monitors for one day. Howie B
was back for solo reasons with Miloco engineer Joe Hirst and assistant Mark Allaway, and the February knot was tied with
sessions for Freerunner and Dogs.
Two more CVs: Finn Eiles, Joe Hirst Miloco Five - The SSL
On the first two days of February, London's hottest female R&B star of the moment, Sadie Ama, was tracking some demos with
producer/engineer P Nut, and Mark Allaway assisting. Mixing two singles after that were John & Jen, and Jon (the second Jon
being Miloco assistant Mr. Olliffe). Up next, Norwich's most-hyped band around, The Pistolas, who were in with

Miloco Seven & Eight - Musikbox & The Pool
This month Musikbox has of course been primarily concerned with the installation of Miloco's second Neve VR60, which has replaced the
old Harrison console up at Kentish Town. We have however squeezed in a few sessions around the whole installation ordeal. John
& Jen were in tracking two singles with the assistance of Miloco's Dean Curtis. Towards the end of the month Starling
were in with producer Darren Allison working on a couple of album tracks. For the most-part of February, The Pool was blessed
with the company of Miloco's favourite chick from down-under Natalie Imbruglia, who has been accompanied by producer Ben
Hillier, engineer Dave McCracken and assistant Ferg Peterkin. However there have been other wonderful folks making
use of Miloco's new live room, including Cheap Hotel who were mixing two singles with Mark Rankin engineering, and The
Cordwood Draggers who were also in with Mr. Rankin.
The last CV (for now): Mark Rankin And that dear friends, was February. It may be the shortest month, but it certainly isn't the least significant; to say that would frankly be unfair on the little fella. We sincerely look forward to hearing the results of the mass array of activity throughout the month at Miloco's studios. The pace has been set for the blustery month of March... New Apple 23" Monitor at The Square
We at Miloco pride ourselves on our staff's balanced lifestyles of rock 'n' roll and healthy diets. It must be said we love our fruit, especially Apples, so much so that we are in the process of installing them at all of our studios. Of course I am now talking about the pristine monitors that Apple have to offer, and The Square has recently been the latest studio to be treated to a brand new 23" Apple monitor for you all to feast your eyes over whilst making use of your precious Pro Tools rigs, MSN Messenger boards, or Yahoo! Pool matches - one's overall diligence will probably dictate quite which one!
New Staff Announcement
Now normally when we have new staff, they have someone else to write this bit for them. But as the new staff in question is responsible (amongst other things) for this newsletter, I guess I'll have to do this one myself! Hi, my name is Richard Woodruff, and I am working at the office writing content for Miloco's website and assisting with general activities. Be nice to me - not only am I the new boy, but I'm also thinking of instigating a 'Numpty of the Month' piece somewhere on the website... Watchout!
Latest Releases
Released 5th March 2007 The Horrors - 'Strange House'
It's been well worth the wait for the release of the debut album from London's garage punk extraordinaires. Their hugely exposed appearance has built up a hype no one could ignore, and now the image has proven to compliment their similarly individual sound of gothic punk rock. Ghostly they may appear, but you shouldn't really be afraid of them, that is unless you are planning on selling the most albums in the UK this year! The Horrors were in The Pool with producer Ben Hillier and engineer Ferg Peterkin throughout November and December 2006. www.thehorrors.co.uk Released 5th March 2007 Charlotte Hatherley - 'The Deep Blue'
Pushing the boundaries of guitar pop, the ex-Ash guitar chick returns with this scintillating display of experimental indie. There are elements of mid-nineties Ash, but the mixture of unique chord and time structures moulds a powerful yet catchy sound which testifies to Charlotte's sharp song-writing talent. Charlotte Hatherley was in the The Neve and The Toyshop with producer Ben Hillier, and in The Pool with producer Luke Smith, throughout 2006. www.charlottehatherley.com Released 5th March 2007 Mr Hudson and The Library - 'A Tale Of Two Cities'
In a time where it seems no artist's sound can escape descriptions of cross-genres, many have been waiting for someone to dare step away from the indie/electro realm and really broaden the horizons of 'musical mixture'. Mr Hudson and the Library should certainly make an impression with their efforts to do so, as debut album 'A Tale Of Two Cities' portrays a wonderfully multi-cultural image involving reggae, hip hop and more singer-songwriter aspects. Mr Hudson and the Library were making use of The Toyshop, Musikbox, The Pool and The Neve throughout the summer of 2006. Dave McCracken produced two tracks off the album. mrhudsonandthelibrary.com/ Released 26th February 2007 IV Thieves - 'If We Can't Escape My Pretty'
Re-locating to Austin, Texas, from their more humble English surroundings has resulted in IV Thieves' new LP displaying an impressive blend of gritty garage rock and quintessential British themes, reminiscent of landmark English bands along the lines of The Libertines, Oasis and The Beatles. The latter Liverpudlians in particular, are a somewhat rekindled spirit in the more psychedelic undertones which flourish throughout this powerful record. IV Thieves were in The SSL mixing the album throughout 2006 with producer Chris Sheldon. www.myspace.com/ivthieves To check out more of the Miloco releases of 2007, please look this way: www.miloco.co.uk/news/ newreleases |
