City Showcase 2005 Report

Back in September London was graced by the 2005 City Showcase. Shining a keen and eager light on all the very best emerging talent, this year's event featured many a Miloco treat.

First up, we hosted a music industry workshop on the ins and outs of professional studio recording. Featuring the expert opinion of panelists such as producer/engineers Dave Eringa, Richard X, Pete Hofmann and Greg Fleming, Kat Berry, from the producer management company 140 db, was also on hand giving the audience the benefit of her insight and advice and an informative and enjoyable time was had by all!

In addition to this, continuing our ne'er stinting efforts to uncover and further the cause of quality up and coming bands, Miloco also offered a special discounted rate to all members of the City Showcase. Watch this space for news on those we lured down...

Studio Round-up

September was yet another busy and eclectic month down at Miloco. As always, we played host to a luscious variety of acts and projects, featuring ivory tinkling, axe wielding, primal screaming, beat pulsing and a little lilting lullaby whispering in equal measure and rippling abundance...

Miloco One (The Neve Room)

Continuing on from last month's metal mayhem, The Neve VR Room has remained a place where angels fear to tread. Slipknot were in and stalking the walkways for most of the month, mixing a live album with Colin Richardson, and with Miloco's metal man Matt Hyde engineering and Jimmy Robertson assisting. Earlier in the month, Steve Dub was mixing for both The Audio Bullys and the beat-tastic John Truelove, on both occasions ably assisted by Ben Thackeray. The boys' CVs can be downloaded here: Matt Hyde, Jimmy Robertson, Ben Thackeray.

Miloco Two (The Toyshop)

The Toyshop found itself home to Roots Manuva who was in remixing a Hard-Fi track with the irrepressible Steve Dub. When they werenÕt around, Ills popped by to take advantage of the Toyshop's impeccable mix environment with the help of Miloco's 'On my' Ed Kane. For details on the fantastic winter rates now available for this excellent room please see above.

Miloco Three (The Square)

The Square played host to a whole raft of artists this month starting with Emily, produced by legend Jazzie B for Filthy Lucre Records and with Joe Hirst in attendance. Finn Eiles was in mixing a live show from hit band Razorlight, and Belarus hung out for a week with Dave Eringa on the desk with Joe Hirst assisting. Finally there was also time for new band The Ryes to record some demo tracks with the help of Ben Thackeray.

Miloco Four (The Garden)

Astrid Williamson was in The Garden, mixing a few tracks with engineer and legend Phil Brown with Joe Hirst assisting. The Mystery Jets were in tracking with the help of Finn Eiles at the mixing desk and new boy Mike Grimley on assisting duty. Elsewhere joyful toy snappers Broken Dolls were around and about and tracking album tracks with Ferg Peterkin lending his assistance. Producer Teo Miller was in with new kids on the block The Zico Chain. Our own Martin Jenkins was running the Protools.

If you would like further information on any of these studios please take a peek at www.miloco.co.uk, drop Jess an email or else call her on: 020-7232-0008. We'd love to hear from you. In the meantime, wrap up cozy now and start giving that mulled wine decanter the glad eye: autumn's officially in town. See you next month, conker lovers.

Hello Mac, pleased to meet you

For all you Mac-fiends out there you'll be glad to know we've ironed out a small hitch with our new site. Those of you using Microsoft Explorer with your Apples may have had a few difficulties with the layout (not our fault - Microsoft haven't updated Mac Explorer for 4 years!), but it's all been sorted now, so enjoy.

Elsewhere, the adorable and too-cool revolution continued apace with the addition of a Mac Mini in our Neve VR Room. It's almost too small to see, but the delectable blighter is now on hand to deliver t'internet to all our beloved Neve clients.

Fightstar Interview

The first issue of Milc kicked off with an interview with the boys from metal-tastic Fightstar. They were in The Neve VR Room with the legendary Colin Richardson and you can click here to read the tales they told.

Spend spend spend!

More quality additions to the Miloco cupboards and provisions. The Square in happy Hoxton upgraded its rig to an HD3 and gained a second HD192 interface so it now boasts some 32 outputs.

Down at Leroy Street, we've taken some tender loving care to our recreation room to satisfy feet and rumps alike. We treated it to a new floor and two inviting sofas, and it looks just lovely.

Staff Profile

In addition to their online CVs we're giving you the opportunity to delve a little deeper into the psyche of our delightful staff. The first issue of Milc includes a profile of our excellent engineer and assistant 'Gentleman' Joe Hirst, and you can read all about the man himself right here.

New Band Profiles!

Roll up, roll up and check out a few wonderful brand spanking new bands. The splendiferous Charles Campbell Jones and The Bright Space and have both been in Miloco recently, and are currently, mystifyingly, un-sullied by mega-bucks record and/or publishing deals. But both assuredly deserve the industry's fevered attention, and so for a sneaky peek at their musical pedigrees and a drooling delve into their thoughts on this, that and the other, come take a look at this month's Milc.
