Studio Profile - The Square
The original Milo studio, it was born in the early 80s to proud parents Henry Crallan and Queen's John Deacon. It quickly established a reputation for quality and the likes of Marc Almond, M-People, The Brand New Heavies and Bjork all recorded here. They were followed by Glitterati, Razorlight, Sixth and Kasabian et al, and most recently it's been home to Plan B, Boy Kill Boy, Goodbooks, Kubichek, The Servant, Mystery Jets and, ahem, the BBC's Just The Two Of Us... Based in the heart of Hoxton, the studio has a 400 sq ft day-lit air-conditioned control room and 430 sq ft live room that delivers that much sought-after funky drummer sound. It's based around an Amek 2520 console with ATC SCM200 monitors, includes a mammoth array of outboard and comes compete with Pro Tools HD2 Accel with 40 outputs and an extensive microphone collection. To be frank, there really is no other mid-range studio that comes close on quality and price. Click here to learn more: Hoxton Square and then book your session today!
Five-a-side aftermath
For those of you who couldn't make it, you've doubtless heard of the high jinks and jolliness that went on. And, yes, something about a semi-final scuffle... Safe to say no blood was actually spilt (other than that that dripped from grazed knees and elbows - just the result of not-necessarily-over-fit-gentlemen squeezing into shorts, downing a few lagers and/or Redbulls and darting about in the sun and drizzle). Anyway, to read the story of how debutants Towers of London ruffled the feathers of the establishment (and wowed their groupies), how FX Rentals defied the form book, and how much champagne and free studio time we gave away, follow the following link. There are loads of photos of you all to laugh at/be proud of (delete as applicable) too, so it's well worth a peep: Click here for the 5-a-side report. Studio Round-upAugust. Been, gone, done that. In between the multitude of festivals (and our own festival of football) we still seemed to cater for almost every genre going and to a host of quality artists and producers. Our two new studios, Musikbox & The Pool, proving (as we knew they would) particularly great additions to the family... Miloco One - The Neve Room
August was mainly Jarvis Cocker month in our premier mix facility, as he continued to mix his album with producer
Graham Sutton. But we also had time for Freeform Five and our Pete Hofmann to work their magic on a Justin Timberlake
remix, and to play host to old friend Luke Haines, again with Miloco's Mr Hofmann. Mercury-nominated The Guillemots
then swung by for a day's mixing b-sides with Adam Noble, before The Bellarosa Connection came back for a mix with
our own Finn Eiles. The next act in was Plan B, tracking and mixing some live tracks either side of his Reading/Leeds
Festival appearances with Al O'Connell at the desk. And the month was brought to a close with some post-The Pool mixing
for Voxtrot with Ben Hillier and Mr Hudson with Dave McCracken.
Head here for CVs: Pete Hofmann & Finn Eiles Miloco Two - The Toyshop
D.A.V.E The Drummer got The Toyshop's month off to a typically beat-packed start, and after that it was full steam
ahead for Ali Love. He was in throughout the month with Steve Dub and Segs. Old buddy M Craft then came in for a day
mixing with engineer Jimmy Robertson, before Ms Dynamite returned to say hello and do some single overdubs. And then
Ali and crew returned to see out the month in fine style.
Miloco Three - The Square
Down in Hoxton it was almost all about Kubichek. They took up residence for three weeks of tracking and mixing album
tracks with the splendid Dave Eringa. When they were done Fiona Renshaw came by for a few days with Paul O'Duffy
running the desk, before those lanky bleach-tops The Long Blondes brought August to a close with post-Klaxons man
Erol Alkan in charge and Miloco's Joe Hirst on engineering duty.
A CV for you: Joe Miloco Four - The Garden
A short stroll away in Shoreditch, those resurgent Madchesterians Happy Mondays were back and mixing in the company of
Howie B. Miloco's Ben Thackeray was the man engineering. Heavy men Hamlet were then in town in the company of Colin
Richardson and right hand man Matt Hyde, before there were a few quick fire sessions with The Rakes and My Luminaries
taking a day each of Joe Hirst's engineering time, the latter with Duncan Mills producing. Dan Swift then took control
of a Kish Mauve session before Adam Dyment visited to mix a Missy Elliot track for Wall of Sound in the company of our
Martin Jenkins. There was then only time left for Italian maestros Casino Royale and Howie B to pop back to see us,
again with Martin Jenkins running the desk, and last but not least young Victoria Horn, in the company of Mark
Portmann.
A hosts of CVs: Ben, Matt Hyde, Martin Miloco Five - The SSL
Our Solid State room got underway in the company Robert harder who was working on a new act. Old mates Mattafix then
swung by to track a single with new Miloco engineer Ferg Peterkin, before Just Jack popped in with
engineer Jay Reynolds. Next up, The Soho Dolls were back with us in the company of Steve Lyon, Chris Sheldon came in
to mix singles with, take a breath...Winterkids, Sign, Levy AND Motorettes, while Stoner did a couple of days with Rik
Simpson, likewise mixing a single. Ben Hillier then popped in for a day with young guns Scully and with that the
month was done.
Miloco Seven & Eight - Musikbox & The Pool
The two new boys on the block, Musikbox and The Pool continued to do the business with aplomb. Mr Hudson started out in
Musikbox with Miloco's Matt Foster before ending the month in The Pool with Dave McCracken in charge and Ferg Peterkin
engineering. Early doors in The Pool saw Scully take up residence alongside Ben Hillier, with Ferg on engineering duty
again. Stephen Fretwell was the next marvellous geezer through the door in the company of Finn Eiles, and then along
came Voxtrot to take advantage of Messrs Hillier and Peterkin and The Pool's 80 sq metres of pure tracking freedom.
Meanwhile back over in Musikbox Soho Dolls did a week with main man Robert Harder.
So there we have it. Another month fairly crammed to bursting with romping recorders and merry mixers from all corners of the musical world. If you haven't had chance to already, you should hotfoot it down and get involved - it's ace here. Call Sophie today on 020 7232 0008, or drop her a line via sophie@miloco.co.uk |

Sellaband Launches!
The latest masterful online music master plan was launched last month, and - yes, you guessed it - Miloco were front and centre and proudly clinging to the nosecone as it blasted off. Sellaband is an ingenious way for new bands and their fans to find each other, help each other and make money. Fans buy shares in their favourite bands and when a band has amassed enough 'believers' they get to invest their funds in recording and releasing their material. The music is free to download and all income raised through on-site advertising is divided between the band, their fans and Sellaband. Miloco thinks Sellaband is a great idea and is delighted to be one of only ten recommended international studios who'll provide their professional expert services to Sellaband's up and coming artists. www.sellaband.com www.sellaband.com/experts

Lovely Pillows
To rest your head on lovingly plumped pillows just a plectrum's throw from a Miloco studio - what could be finer? It seems every hotelier worth their salt agrees, as two fabulous new hotels have just opened up round the corner from Leroy Street (home of The Neve Room, The Pool and The Toyshop) and Hoxton Square (home of The Square, and but a stroll from The Garden). Hilton Tower Bridge has just opened it's swanky (245 bedroom) doors to grateful guests and, as you'd expect, offers the very best service, including 9 meeting rooms, a top restaurant, lively bar and wireless broadband internet access throughout. The studio is just 15 minutes walk away and the hotel's just moments from London Bridge, The City and a myriad of treats. www.hilton.co.uk Meanwhile, Hoxton is now home to The Hoxton Hotel. A new venture from the Pret A Manger empire, the hotel is said to be "where urban living meets country lodge lounging." They boast "roaring fires and cool cocktails, Frette linen and flat screen TV's." There's a great bar and restaurant too and, rather fabulously, "amazing cheap rates." www.hoxtonhotels.com As with all our studios, if you ever want to know where to eat, drink, sleep or dance the night away, you're only ever a click away from everything you need. Just head to the individual studio's homepage on our website and follow the links to What To Do and Where To Stay. We've lovingly compiled in-depth details on all that that particular corner of London has to offer, so you'll always know precisely where to go to get the service and entertainment you crave...
