The Miloco Website Just Got A Whole Lot Better!

For the last few months we have been busier than busy both in the studios and behind the scenes. In August we unleashed our gorgeous new brochures - the must-have packs for every A&R contact and manager worth their salt - and to complement their release we have now refreshed, revamped and re-branded our website.

So this September please join us in welcoming the upgraded site into the world. Its handsome features are bristling with even more information than before and there are an abundance of quality photos of our delectable studios (allowing you to salivate over their delicious nooks and crannies with abandon). There are new 'What to do' and 'Where to stay' sections, so you'll always have all the latest info on the areas that surround our lovely studios, and there's even Miloco Radio - so you can hear some of the tracks we've been mixing. And, as if all that wasn't enough, September the 12th will see the launch of our monthly online magazine 'MILC', full to bursting with news, reviews and interviews with our recent clients. So, please, head on down, have a browse and see what you think. And if you've any suggestions, please don't hesitate to let us know (you can write them on our forum, don'tcha know). Happy perusing, folks.

And the Winners Were...

On pitches made of fake grass modern day gladiators gathered, for it was time again for the Miloco Five-A-Side Football Tournament. And - after the referees had confiscated an assortment of swords, tridents, netting and spiked-balls-on-chains - Battersea was treated to a fair amount of skills, thrills and a generous cartload of spills.

As the matches came and went, so did the players' capacity to run, breath and see the funny side of things. However, eventually, the teams were whittled down to the final, triumphant, wheezing, prize-winning four, and a good day was proclaimed had by all.

Those found loitering on the podium at the end of the day were as follows:

1st Place: 2005 champions, 679 Recordings, who won a full day in Miloco's flagship mixing studio, The Neve VR Room, as well as a chilled bottle of champagne, the inaugural and much-coveted Miloco 5-A-Side Football Tournament Champions' Trophy, and medals on ribbons round necks for all concerned.

2nd Place: 2005 runners-up, Pete Gibbons & The Strangers aka 'V2', who snuck through to the final so that Pete could win a full day in Miloco's supreme tracking studio, The Garden, as well as a chilled bottle of champagne, and a markedly smaller inaugural and slightly-less-coveted Miloco 5-A-Side Football Tournament Runners-up Cup.

3rd Place: Stephen Budd Management, who waltzed away with a full day in Miloco's retro recording haven, The Garden, as well as a chilled bottle of champagne and the undying respect of their peers, onlookers and well-wishers.

4th Place: Virgin, who filled their boots with a full day in Miloco's big boys' paradise, The Toyshop, as well as a fatherly nod from a passing net-maintenance operative.

City Showcase 2005 & Miloco together in perfect harmony...

City Showcase is a five-day festival (5th-9th September) of FREE events in Central London promoting and presenting emerging talent in fashion and music of all genres. Past City Showcase discoveries include Razorlight, Keane, Rooster, Amy Winehouse and Tyler James. The raft of events includes day-sessions in West End stores (including Virgin Megastore, Piccadilly and the Apple Store, Regent Street), not to mention a string of evening gigs (taking in rock, indie, hip-hop and classical) at some of London's renowned music venues including the 100 Club and the Borderline. The seminars are aimed at working musicians and trade delegates and will cover A&R, radio, the digital revolution, copyright, marketing, recording and touring. There will also be one-to-one surgeries with agents, management representatives, label execs, accountants and solicitors throughout the week. All City Showcase workshops, tickets and surgeries are free and can only be booked through the website: www.cityshowcase.co.uk

This year Miloco is along to lend a hand. On Friday 9th September at 11.00 am, we are hosting a music industry workshop at the London College of Fashion. Moderated by our studio manager, Jess Gerry, it will feature the expert opinion of panelists such as producer/engineers Dave Eringa, Richard X, Pete Hofmann and Greg Fleming. Kat Berry, from the producer management company 140 db, will also be on hand to give the audience the benefit of her insight and advice. You can also follow this link and find yourself at the article 'What makes a good recording studio?' penned by Miloco's own Pete Hofmann.

As an additional perk for all members of City Showcase 2005, Miloco are not only offering special discounted rates of between 12.5% and 30% but also free recording sessions for a lucky few! Our engineers and producers are going to be scouting the live Showcase events in search of artists and bands that tickle their fancy, and those selected will all win the opportunity to track, mix or program their material in one of Miloco's superb studios

Studio Round-up

August has been metal-tastic down Miloco way. Every desk in the place has been shaking to the latest steel, iron, copper and platinum-obsessed bands, all 'marshalled' by the expert hands of legendary producer Colin Richardson.

Miloco One (The Neve Room)

The Neve VR Room has been base camp alpha for this metal movement. Following on from the success of Chimaira's second album, producer Colin Richardson has returned to Miloco to record and mix yet more doses of gargantuan metal. First up, we had Island signings Fightstar, in putting the finishing touches on a forthcoming single. Then, immediately after that, Colin began work on U.S. label Roadrunner's 25th Anniversary album - featuring new tracks by everyone on the label's current roster (more information to follow soon). Both of these projects have been engineered by our very own metal hero Matt Hyde, and for more information on Matt please follow this link.

Miloco Two (The Toyshop)

Once again Roll Deep have been in the Toyshop, tweaking and honing tracks left, right and centre. Look out for their forthcoming single 'Shake A Leg' due out on Virgin records - a fantastic summer tune, and no mistake. Elsewhere, John Truelove was in with producer Steve Dub working on a forthcoming remix, while The Beatdropperz were in with our own Greg Fleming on engineering and co-producing duty. For a peek at Greg's delectable CV, click here.

Miloco Three (The Square)

The Square has been as busy as ever. The legendary ABC were in with engineer Ali Hakimi, while Joe Hirst was busy engineering with Philip Appleby for a forthcoming programme on the BBC. (You can check out what else Joe has been up to via this link ). Stephen Fretwell was in with engineer Guy Massey, hiring a beautiful baby grand while they were about it, and Ben Onono came by to mix some tracks with producer Lance Thomas, with our own engineer Martin Jenkins at the board. Check out Martin's CV here.

Miloco Four (The Garden)

Our top tracking studio has been packed to the rafters throughout August. Mainly busy recording top class indie bands, its versatility was also exploited for some excellent mix sessions and the recording of some advert soundtracks. First up, new boy on the block Charles Campbell-Jones was in mixing tunes with Ben Thackeray at the desk (and you can check out Ben's CV here). The fantastic Futureheads were in recording a new track with engineer Eliot James at the controls, while Irish act Red Organ Serpent Sound have been over recording and mixing 15 (yes, 15!) tracks in two days, with our own Finn Eiles engineering like the wind. Boxer Rebellion were in for two days with producer Chris Sheldon and Miloco's Jimmy Robertson at the desk, and, last up, Pete Hofmann managed to squeeze a day in to record strings for Free Lance Hellraiser. (You can check out these gents' fine CVs by clicking here: Finn Eiles, Jimmy Robertson and Pete Hofmann).

If you would like further information on any of these studios please take a peek at www.miloco.co.uk drop Jess an email or else call her on: 020-7232-0008. We'd love to hear from you. Have a good month, folks, and we look forward to seeing you down at the City Showcase event on September 9th.

Grump of the month

This honour goes to the chief ref at the Miloco 5-a-side tournament who, 30 seconds after the joyous prize giving ceremony, felt the need to lecture us all on the evils of drinking and smoking while playing football. It was regrettably unclear at the time of going to press whether or not the gentleman is similarly ill-disposed to laughter, oxygen and the banning of barbed-wire undergarments, but Miloco has its suspicions.

Producer Mike Spencer moves in Operations Manager moves out !

Producer and engineer Mike Spencer has set up home in what used to be our old Toyshop studio, and more recently the office of Miloco operations manager, Nick Young. Mike is well known for his production on the Kylie Minogue single 'Spinning Around', and for the last 18 months has been hidden away co-producing the new Jamiroquai album, Dynamite. He celebrated moving in with the purchase of a brand spanking Protools HD rig, which is already installed and merrily vibrating our floor. For further information on Mike check out his website. www.mikespencer.co.uk

New Brochures

Miloco are proud to offer you four delicious new brochures (one for each room). These veritable works of art have taken six people three months to create, are jam-packed with all the facts prospective clients need and are available today! If you've not been lucky enough to receive one yet, then just email info@miloco.co.uk. Your desk will never be the same again!

New Assistant

Finally, we'd like to welcome on board our latest recruit, Stewart Harris. Joining us as a runner, Stewart has recently completed a music technology course and shares a flat with our assistant Mike Grimley (no recipe for disaster there then...). Although, talking of recipes, word reaches us that his culinary skills are superb! So, hello Stewart and welcome to the fold.

Finally a big thank you

To our website team and designers who have worked tirelessly over the past 6 months delivering what we believe is one of the smartest and most informative studio websites around. Their attention to detail is impeccable and can be seen in all its glory in our new brochures. So if you ever find yourself in need of websites, brochures or any other design projects we would unconditionally recommend Resource Studio. (Oh, and it may involve a trip to Amsterdam, because that's where they're based...) For more information check out their site. www.resourcestudio.nl
