New long-let rooms available from October!

Roll on September! It seems as though these days a month can never pass without us telling you about more terrific new rooms joining the Miloco group, and September is no different. This month we have some excellent new programming rooms for you all to fight over. From the start of October, we will be cutting the ribbons on three new suites in Queens Park, North-West London, all of which are available to tenants on long-term leases. Like our other programming suites, the idea is that we provide the space, and you bring the gear...

The rooms are located in a building near to both Kilburn Lane and Ladbroke Grove. The facility also contains two main recording studios and three other occupied programming suites, which all add to the hugely creative vibe throughout the premises. The first available room is an amazing split-level studio that can be used for rehearsing, recording or even showcases. The room is soundproofed, day-lit and incredibly spacious, with a 23 square meter upper level providing a fantastic area for outboard gear, and a slightly larger 26 square meter lower level which is ideal for setting up a band. There is also a well-sized storeroom, which can be handily doubled-up as an amp booth.

The second and third available rooms are small suites located on the basement level of the building. Both rooms have a main space of roughly 10 square meters, with an additional booth large enough to record vocals or guitars. These rooms would perfectly suit writers with smaller equipment setups, however still provide a comfortable and homely space for you to make your own.

Elsewhere in the land of long-let living, we have also acquired a complex in Hornsey, North London. This building, located on Hornsey Road and within walking distance of Archway and Crouch End, contains six programming rooms, all of which are day-lit, alarmed, air-conditioned and well-decorated, and most of which have their own recording booths. All of these rooms are currently occupied, so we don't have any immediately available for letting out, although we would still love to hear from people interested in putting their name on the waiting list.

El Cortijo Update!
Available studio time fast approaching...

So our luxury Spanish villa and recording studio, El Cortijo, is coming to the end of its very first summer under Miloco management. And what a jam-packed summer it's been! However we're now thrilled to announce after such heavy demand over the last few months that our 5-star Mediterranean residential is finally freeing up for the Autumn, so don't hang around in getting your name in the bookings diary...

Located in the Andalucia region Southern Spain, this beautiful Mediterranean 7-bedroom villa is engulfed in the spectacular mountainside of the Ronda National Park. A short drive from the elegant coastal town of Marbella, El Cortijo absorbs all the climates and cultures which attract millions of people from around the globe to the South of Spain every year, whilst however enjoying its own secluded, tranquil and idyllic spot in the Andalucian countryside. At El Cortijo, clients can enjoy complete exclusivity in a private location separated from the rest of the world and its persistent everyday distractions, safe in the knowledge that no-one will know where to find you.

As a top-end recording location, El Cortijo offers a creative setting like no other in Europe. The studio boasts an expansive collection of quality gear, plus a variety of live rooms centred around a Trident Vector console and a Protools HD3 rig. Combined with the luxurious living spaces and stunning surroundings, this magnificent studio gives clients the dream option to completely escape, relax and create. You will have sole enjoyment of a vast 7-bedroom villa with beautiful living spaces, as well as a stunning set of gardens boasting a sumptuous 11-metre swimming pool, badminton courts, and numerous bathing areas. You will be served exquisite Spanish and French dishes on a daily basis, cooked by the highly-skilled chefs on-site from the fresh local produce of Andalucia.

During your El Cortijo session you can of course fully enjoy what's on offer out and about. Andalucia is one of Spain's most beautiful regions, and is home to such great Spanish cities as Malaga, Cordoba, Grenada and Cadiz. But closest of all to the villa is the world-famous coastal town of Marbella, which ranks as one of Europe's most desirable destinations due to its elegant style, and incredible nightlife. The town can be reached by car in 15 minutes from the villa. Both Malaga and the nearby Gibraltar provide airports that are reachable in 45 minutes from El Cortijo, and both have regular flight services to and from the UK.

The Garden refurb - It's official! It's complete!

Sparkle-ty sparkle! So finally, after a long haul of meticulous refurbishment work The Garden's revamp is well-and-truly finished, and our legendary Shoreditch tracking studio is now looking rather ravishing indeed!

The final pieces of TLC we've done down there have been in its infamous live room, which will make tracking your records all the more enjoyable. A fresh layer of paint is accompanied by some very funky and colourful wall hangings, and furthermore, we've installed a projector screen in the control room, which beams out weird, wacky and wonderful lights and images through to the live area to create bags of vibe for artists to lap up when recording. It joins a spic-and-span control room refurbed in late 2007, as well as a completely redecorated recreation room and corridor. The Garden really has never looked so cool!

New Chandler TG1 Zener in
The Engine Room



We're very excited, and you should be too! Why? Because we have added a Chandler TG1 Zener valve limiter/compressor in The Engine Room - the latest fantastic toy to feature in our flagship studio. This brilliant piece of kit is one of the newest models in the classic EMI Chandler TG1 series and was issued as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations of Abbey Road studios. Based on the vintage EMI circuits used to record The Beatles and Pink Floyd in the late 1960s, you'll be astonished by the similarity of the sound this module can produce.

The re-issue's purpose to add additional features and flexibility to the vintage TG circuits makes it perfect for modern-day use. So due to increasingly popular demand from numerous producer clients, we have decided to add one to The Engine Room's spec.

New Session Videos on MILC!



You can now view a portfolio of excellent session and music videos recorded in numerous Miloco studios. Our online magazine, MILC, now sports a brand new feature of Miloco video clips thanks to our good friends at YouTube and MySpace Video, as well as of course the many folks who have been proactively bringing in video cameras to the studios during sessions.

The first videos on the site are of the likes of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, These New Puritans, Sparkadia and Beat Six, as well as two recently filmed official music videos by Travis and The Futureheads.

We are now of course looking to constantly build up this collection of session videos, and would love to hear from anyone who knows of any films made in our studios floating around cyberspace which we ourselves are yet to find (we are convinced there must be loads!!). We'd also like to encourage more and more people to film their studio activity at Miloco sessions. We'd be more than happy to stream promotioal videos filmed in our studios on the webzine, so feel free to get the cameras rolling, and video clips uploaded to YouTube and the like!!!

Flood & Alan Moulder talk Assault & Battery 2!



Whilst on the subject of MILC magazine, we'd also like to inform you all that we have now posted an exclusive interview with the legendary Flood & Alan Moulder, as part of the big opening of their phenomenal tracking studio, Assault & Battery 2, which they have of course joined forces with Miloco to operate.

It was a pleasure to grab an hour of Flood and Alan's time last month to get them talking about this brilliant new studio (as well as a few other topics, naturally), and you can now indulge in a good old read here.

Coming soon...

We're wrapping up proceedings with a real cliff-hanger this month!! We're not letting too much out of the bag, but you will surely like to know that there might well be a new residential studio opening sooner than soon, in the heart of the English countryside!
