Miloco present the studio relaunch of the year...
The Pool - "To Be Or Not To Be?"

We lead this month with the news of the UK's biggest studio relaunch of 2009! Our Miloco HQ in SE1 has been under hammer and tong for some huge refurbishment and rebuild works on three studios, and this September we are proudly re-opening London's most exciting and creative tracking room,
The Pool...

The Pool is now completely revitalized, offering clients more choice, versatility and a whole new way of working. Since the rebuild it features a brand new control room which rises above the vast live space. The control room is filled with producer Ben Hillier's immense collection of vintage analogue gear, including a rare EMT console and stacks of outboard and microphones. Now engineers and producers can take advantage of Ben's equipment and The Pool's incredible tracking space from behind closed doors...
Beneath the control room is The Pool's famous huge live room which has been completely refurbished. The live room now features a large drum booth at the far end, again rising above the ground level. We have added brand new lighting, made numerous acoustic enhancements and have relocated the entrance to the studio. Clients are now invited to fully enjoy this beautifully presented, expansive and daylit tracking space. You'll simply love working here!!

Get to know the new-look Pool!

The Pool is a huge 1800 sq ft creative space with high ceilings and an abundance of natural light provided by two large skylights. The new control room is based at the front of the studio on what used to be the loading bay. It is amazingly presented with deep-blue fabrics covering the panels, a new high definition flat screen TV, a brand new air-con unit and dazzling halogen lights. The EMT 30-channel console sits on the right side of the room. It is joined by an excellent range of monitors including Genelec 1031s, Yamaha NS10s and Tannoy Little Golds. The racks are located behind the desks, and are filled with Ben Hillier's mouth-watering collection of analogue toys. There's a whole arsenal of sought-after vintage mic-pres, plus countless dynamics and processors.

At the front of the control room are some large glass sliding doors looking down across the expansive live space and across to the drum booth. You can access the live space from the control room via some large, illuminated steps. Here is where the band can set up and spread out in what must be one of the greatest tracking spaces around. Not only is it vast, but also filled with Ben's incredible collection of backline and microphones. There are all sorts of brilliant analogue keyboards and samplers, beautifully maintained guitars, amplifiers and pedals, plus countless vintage mics. Clients will be totally spoiled for choice!

The newly themed live room offers a unique and vibey atmosphere. Being 'The Pool' we just had to give the entire floor space and lower-walls a striking coat of bright blue paint. We've refurbished the long sidewall with tall wooden beams and some large panels which have enhanced the acoustics of the room, and have added brand new lights.

On the far side of the live room is the new drum booth, measuring roughly 3 metres high on the inside and producing some fantastic sounds. You'll find a top-of-the-range Slingerland drum kit in there, ready and waiting for you!

The Pool's control room and booth means we can now provide producers and engineers who prefer recording from behind closed doors with another top-end tracking facility. However we have designed the new-look Pool so that it can still be used in its original open-plan tracking environment. With 24 hours notice and for bookings which last for a week or more, we can relocate the control room's equipment to the live room. The control room can then be used as a large booth, and extreme open plan recording commences! Control room, no control room ? To Be or Not To Be... ?

Celebrating 'The Rebirth of Pool', Thursday 24th September

There's no better way to usher in a brand new era at our beloved Leroy Street premises than inviting our friends to throw on their glad-rags and join us for a night of partying, so that's what we're going to do.

Thursday 24th September is officially 'The Rebirth of Pool'. We're now thick in the midst of preparations for the big night, which of course includes compiling a mile-long list of guests. New Vintage Neve coming soon to The Garden...

Our classic Shoreditch tracking room, The Garden, is saying a fond farewell to its longstanding Neve V3 console, but will soon be welcoming a fully restored 40 channel Neve 8026 console loaded with a selection of 1084 and 1076 modules. The console has a rare 24 channel Jukebox monitor section making it ideal for large tracking sessions. Our large microphone collection will be further enhanced by some new additions including a pair of AKG C12A's and a pair of Neumann UM57s. On top of this we shall be enhancing the outboard with new mic amps, EQs, compressors and effects...

You can view the new Garden spec (in place from October), by clicking this link:

There'll be plenty more news and information on these new movements over the next couple of months, so keep yourselves posted on the Miloco site.

Miloco Payback Competition

It's been an encouraging start to our brand new studio competition, Miloco Payback, where we give anyone the possibility to win a day's free studio time at a chosen Miloco studio every week. We've run a handful of sessions with competition winners over the last month, at The Garden, The Pool, The Square and Musikbox.

For those who are still new to the concept, here's what happens. Every week we announce a studio prize via Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and on the Miloco site, and run a week-long draw on the website which anyone can enter by filling in a simple online form. At the end of the week we will pick a winner from a hat and offer them a day in the chosen studio during the following week. Once the winner is confirmed, we will then announce the next week's draw and run another weekly competition, and so on...

What's the catch ? Well there isn't one really, although we do ask the competition winner to pay for the studio assistant who will be required on the session. The 12 hours of studio time is as free as a bird!
