# The Chemical Brothers - 'Salmon Dance'     www.thechemicalbrothers.com
Possibly one of the most outlandish tunes The Chems have ever conjured up, 'Salmon Dance' is reminiscent of any old nursery rhyme about a fish, warped through some tripped-out time machine to when martians were celebrating 1960s psychedelia. Brilliant.

# Shitdisco - 'Kingdom of Fear'     www.shitdisco.co.uk
Spending much time practicing knees-ups on the road with Klaxons, these Glaswegians are another integral element to the thriving New Rave scene. Oh, and it appears they had a strangely forgettable yet somehow inspiring experience at a disco one night, but that's just a theory.

Shitdisco spent time in The Pool and The Toyshop in November and December 2006 with producer Luke Smith and Miloco engineers Ferg Peterkin and Joe Hirst.

Released 16th April 2007

# Arctic Monkeys - 'Brianstorm'     www.arcticmonkeys.com

# Fields - 'Everything Last Winter'     www.fieldsband.com
The widely acclaimed Fields' debut, 'Everything Last Winter', explores the various dimensions of folk-rock, injecting all sorts from the psychedelic undertones of Espers through to My Bloody Valentine-esque feedback noise. Perhaps testament to their excitable substance is one critic's description - "A bit like if the Magic Numbers grew balls and an unhealthy obsession with Paganism." We trust that is a compliment.

Fields were mixing album tracks with producer Ewan Pearson and Miloco engineer Pete Hofmann in May 2006.

Released 2nd April 2007

# Alberta Cross - 'The Thief and the Heartbreaker'     www.myspace.com/albertacross
Their influences are clear-cut, yet their delivery is exquisite. Alberta Cross are the unlikeliest of East London bands (would you agree that a name that exotic doesn't necessarily reflect Hackney?). The Thief and the Heartbreaker glides through seven tracks of sun-drenched folk rock, drawing on the hippy music that flowed around the LA Canyons in the 1960s. Equally impressive are the boys' efforts to sport similar quantities of above-neck hair as their Californian idols!

Alberta Cross were in The Square, The Neve and The Garden throughout 2006 and the early part of 2007 with Miloco's very own Finn Eiles producing and engineering.

Released 26th March 2007

# Roll Deep - 'Rules and Regulations'     www.myspace.com/rolldeepofficial

Deep inside the misty atmospherics of Newcastle Upon Tyne, there lives a beast named Kubichek! Now before you are either misled or spooked out by any one of the following: the rather morbid-looking raven on the image to the left; the somewhat Jabberwocky-like name of Kubichek!; or the opening sentence of this paragraph, Kubichek! is not a monster, but a mighty good indie rock band, destined for mighty good things.

Kubichek! were in The Square in July and August 2006, recording and mixing album tracks with producer/engineer Dave Eringa. Mark Allaway assisted.

Teaming up again with the legendary session drummer Steve Reid (Miles Davis, James Brown, Fela Kuti amongst others), electronic pioneer Kieran Hebden unleashes this electrifying record with adventurous and complex motifs in abundance. That element lives up to the style which Hebden has become accountable for, but the inclusion of Reid on percussion injects a more natural yet still hugely enthralling edge to the record!

Throughout 2005 and 2006, Kieran Hebdon and Steve Reid were recording "The Exchange Sessions". "Tongues" was also recorded during the sessions. Miloco's Mark Rankin was on engineering duties.

Released 19th March 2007

# Five O'Clock Heroes - 'Skin Deep'     www.myspace.com/fiveoclockheroes
The Transatlantic line-up of Five O'Clock Heroes is uniquely exposed in their latest single, 'Skin Deep'. The beer-swilling-hooligans-singing-on-footy-terraces aspect is arguably borrowed from gritty Brit-rock bands such as The Fratellis and The Libertines, where the more jingle-jangle soul pop rudiments pay more tribute to Hall and Oates. The glitz and glamour of Northampton meets the murky doldrums of some American town called New York(!).

Five O'Clock Heroes were in The Square on January 23 mixing the single's b-side, 'Every Night All Night', with Miloco's Finn Eiles engineering.

Released 5th March 2007

# Kubichek! - 'Nightjoy'     www.kubichek.co.uk
Second single from the Newcastle band's debut album. Whereas the first single's sleeve depicted a rather menacing looking wolf, 'Nightjoy' depicts a big, mean, grizzly bear. There are differences between the songs too, so why not buy both and witness them first hand.

'Nightjoy' was mixed by producer/engineer Dave Eringa in The Square in August 2006.

Released 5th March 2007

# Tracey Thorn - 'Out of the Woods'     www.traceythorn.com
The blissful voice that came to prominence as the lead vocal in Everything But The Girl is back with her new album, a staggering 25 years on from her first solo release. Tracey Thorne strides on with another brilliant set of euphoric electronica in 'Out of the Woods'. Few people have made music which can act as the perfect ambience to an aromatic bath as well as serving as a euphoria floor-filler. Don't dare mention dodgy Enya remixes!

Tracey Thorn was in The Garden in January 2006 recording album tracks with producer/engineer Ewan Pearson, and Miloco's Ben Thackeray.

Released 5th March 2007

# The Horrors - 'Strange House'     www.thehorrors.co.uk
It's been well worth the wait for the release of the debut album from London's garage punk extraordinaires. Their hugely exposed appearance has built up a hype no-one could ignore, and now the image has proven to compliment their similarly individual sound of gothic punk rock. Ghostly they may appear, but you shouldn't really be afraid of them, that is unless you are planning on selling the most albums in the UK this year!

The Horrors were in The Pool with producer Ben Hillier and engineer Ferg Peterkin throughout November and December 2006.

Released 5th March 2007

# Mr Hudson and The Library - 'A Tale Of Two Cities'     www.mrhudsonandthelibrary.com/
In a time where it seems no artist's sound can escape descriptions of cross-genres, many have been waiting for someone to dare step away from the indie/electro realm and really broaden the horizons of 'musical mixture'. Re-locating to Austin, Texas, from their more humble English surroundings has resulted in IV Thieves' new LP displaying an impressive blend of gritty garage rock and quintessential British themes, reminiscent of landmark English bands along the lines of The Libertines, Oasis and The Beatles. The latter Liverpudlians in particular, are a somewhat rekindled spirit in the more psychedelic undertones which flourish throughout this powerful record.

# Mighty Roars - "Sellotape"     www.themightyroars.com
The new single from The Mighty Roars should be sold with a free tube of burn cream. So intense and fiery are the vocals of frontwoman Lara Granqvist and the sheer guitar noise of the track, you're almost left with third degree burns upon listening. The song continues the band's frantic "head crushed in a vice" impact of Sonic Youth mixed with The Breeders, driven by chainsaw-like guitars and swallowed in so much feedback it's like an amp factory has exploded. The Mighty Roars burst with so much adrenaline and feverish excitement, it's like they manufacture the stuff.
