Alpha Centauri - 'The UK's Best Spec'd Mix Room'

Alpha Centauri Overview

# Located in London's North West district of Willesden Green, Alpha Centauri forms part of a mass-regeneration of the famous Battery complex. We are honoured to be running this magnificent studio alongside its owner Steve Rhodes, who built it as a no-compromise room with immaculate attention to detail for his personal projects, but in the end decided to open it for public use as well.

On entering the room, its beautifully crafted and perfectly proportioned interior sets the tone for the room's paramount standards. The studio proudly boasts a dazzling furnish of luxurious Ferrari-red furniture, embedded with the countless racks of outboard, and of course the pristine SSL SL4060 G+ at the heart of the room. The console itself has been cleverly customised and now boasts an incredible 5 mix busses, 32 legendary E series blackface EQs and 28 G series EQs.

# Looming over the console is the studio's awesome monitoring. An imposing set of Dynaudio M4+ active custom-built speakers are the front end of a setup which also includes ATC SCM20ASL active speakers, Auratone 5C-Super-Sound-Cube speakers, and of course Yamaha NS-10M Studio speakers on ceramic cones. The design and acoustics of the room have been carefully tuned by Munro Acoustics which results in extraordinary detail sonic purity.

Behind the console is the first of many bespoke FX racks containing a vast selection of the highest quality outboard. Put simply, everything you have ever dreamed of using can be found somewhere. Located centrally is a huge 30" display, running Digidesign Pro Tools HD3 on a fully loaded Apple MacPro 2x2.8 Quad-Core with Apogee AD16 converters clocked from an Antelope atomic clock. Further back is a beautifully restored Studer A820½ inch and stylish 3-seater sofa, both placed under a large skylight which allows plenty of natural daylight into the studio. When the sun goes down, simply flick on the cutting-edge LED lighting system and relax into an ultra-cool atmosphere!

# The booth is located to the right of the main control room and maintains great visibility between the two. Generously sized, it comfortably fits a drum kit, hence provides a diverse space for a number of uses. Needless to say the mic collection contains some classic mics including a Neumann M49b, Microtec Gefell UM75, and a Sony C38.

Alpha Centauri is part of a large complex of recording facilities undergoing a vast revamp program, hence enjoys being part of a hugely creative working environment. It shares a fully-equipped kitchen and leisurely recreation area with the building's other rooms, and of course benefits from the area's numerous and quick transport links to and from Central London and Camden. There is a good selection of bars, pubs and restaurants in both Willesden and down the road in Kensal Green and Queen's Park.
