Babajim Studio A

Babajim Studio A Overview

The split-level recording maze consists of five isolated rooms (with clear sightlines), a mezzanine gallery space, and movable acoustic walls which can split the main room in two. For even more fun, the movable walls can be used partially open to create unusual hybrid spaces. This also lets the liveness of the room be dialed into taste.

All of this is possible due to the remarkable designs of Roger D'Arcy from Recording Architecture, UK. The spaces are visually and acoustically inspiring - quirky, other-worldly and warm. It has none of the cold sterility found in so many top-flight studios, and musicians feel it immediately.

To capture the musical results, Babajim Studio A features a Rupert Neve Designs 5088 (32-channel), tons of outboard including pres from Grace Designs, API, and Sytek, expanded Pro Tools with great A-D-A converters, and a fully-stocked mic locker. Backline includes an amazing Fazioli grand piano and a Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute drum kit.

While not recording, clients can relax in one of multiple artist lounges, including a private lounge and terrace just for Studio A users. The vibe is elegant but home-like, filled with comfy mid-century antique furniture.

The studio complex is located smack dab in the middle of the most exciting district of old Istanbul - Beyoglu. Literally hundreds of restaurants, bars, clubs and hotels can be found within a 5-minute walk from the studio. The calm of Babajim stands in sharp contrast with the energy of the old city, and this truly lets artists have the best of both worlds.
