El Cortijo - The House
El Cortijo presents itself as an imposing yet glorious villa, heavily influenced by the
beautiful palaces of the Spanish Renaissance. As one of the most stunning modern buildings
in the area, it stands magnificently on this tranquil Andalucian terrain.
The scenic hillside road from San Pedro de Alcantara to Ronda takes you up to a private driveway leading to the villa and its neighbouring properties. Once through the main gate to the site, there are a number of available parking spaces for guests to use. The house is entered through a beautiful terracotta tiled patio, centered around an attractive water feature and surrounded by the four sides of the villa. Some striking features are immediately on show; the building's magnificent tower, a lovely outdoor dining area, and the upstairs kitchen's beautiful arched windows overlooking the patio.
The living areas are not only luxurious and expansive, but plentiful too, and spread across the
many different levels of the villa. Occupying much of the ground floor are the dining room and
upstairs lounge. These share one of several balconies providing spectacular views of the
surrounding area, and the lounge leads on to a mezzanine gallery overlooking the Salon based on
the lower-ground floor of the house, and reached via a spiral staircase.
The Salon boasts a stunning 7 metre (23 feet) high timber decorated ceiling, many comfortable sofas and a magnificent fireplace. The library is situated at one end of the Salon, and has a fantastically varied selection of books and DVDs, as well as a computer with broadband access. Whilst on the lower-ground floor, you will no doubt stumble upon El Cortijo's superb recording studio, as well as a covered terrace overlooking the picturesque gardens and swimming pool.
There are seven exquisite bedrooms located around the property. The house's
principal bedrooms, the Master Suite and Bedroom Two, are located on the lower-ground floor.
There are another two bedrooms beneath the Master Suite and the main salon, both of which face onto
the garden and are accessed from it. On the ground level of the house is Bedroom
Three, which is reached via a small hallway coming off the main covered entrance to the house. The remaining
two bedrooms are located in the tower building. Bedroom Four is found at the top of the tower, and Bedroom
Five on the tower's lower floor.
El Cortijo's garden is both stunning and sizeable. Buried within the spectacular hills and valleys of the Andalucian countryside, the grounds comprise of charming private terraces, outside dining areas, sundrenched bathing spots, shaded sanctuaries, a secluded badminton court and of course the magnificent 11-metre swimming pool located at the foot of the garden.
This immense villa is immersed in characteristic features which help realise the unique balance between modern-day luxuries and the historical cultures of Southern Spain. The architectural design and intricate details throughout the villa are amazing. You will find the many arches and columns scattered around the rooms and hallways complimenting the fabulous interior styles of the house, which include a personal collection of paintings and antiques which have been collected by Trevor over the years.
