The Engine Room - 'Engine Room Calling Bridge'

"The sound of Miloco Studio's Engine Room is really important to the sound of our records" - Tom Rowlands (Chemical Brothers)

"The Engine Room for me is all about the monitoring. They are super accurate, hype without being flattering, and to use them for programming, remixing or production is great fun..." - Paul Epworth (Producer)

The Engine Room Information

# The Engine Room is a day-lit, soundproofed and air-conditioned mix room measuring 400 sq feet. It comprises a Neve VR60 console, incredible choice of monitors, Protools HD3 and stacks of outboard.

In 2009 we refurbished the room giving it a refreshed and contemporary image. The cosmetic improvements include brand new halogen lights, a high definition flatscreen TV, beautiful red fabric covering the acoustic panels and a fresh coat of paint, creating a dazzling red, black and creamy-white interior.

# Much of the layout of the room has remained the same. The console sits at the front of the room facing the double sliding doors through which you enter the studio. It is of course joined by our well-renowned and impeccable monitoring system, including customized Munro M4's - regularly checked and aligned by expert acoustician Nick Whitaker - and a choice of Yamaha NS10's, Adam S3A's and Genelec 1031's. With the addition of a new Bryston amp to enhance the nearfield monitoring, The Engine Room continues to provide a truly world-class sonic arsenal for you to mix your records with...

The outboard racks sit behind the desk and contain many of the toys you'd expect in a top end mix room. In addition to the Massenberg, Focusrite, EAR, Summit, Tubetech and Lexicon units, we have some intriguing effects such as the Moog 12 Stage Phaser and the Marshall Time Modulator. At the back of the room is a large and luxurious leather sofa sat beneath a skylight, and an additional workstation and computer for internet access and general use. The Protools rig has been moved from the back of the room to the void between The Engine Room and Bridge to reduce background noise. The rig has 24 inputs and 48 outputs and comes loaded with a whole host of both popular and rare plug-ins. However if you still wish to record onto 2", we have an Otari MTR90 with either 16 or 24 track available on request.

# Having re-designed The Engine Room's former live room, now named The Bridge, and having built a new soundproof wall to enhance the isolation between the two rooms, we can offer a variety of options to how The Engine Room and Bridge can be used. Both rooms operate together or separately depending on what is required. The Engine Room can of course be used solely as a mix room, but for an additional cost can be utilised with The Bridge and serve as a high-end tracking facility consisting of a control room and three recording areas: a main live space, a dead booth and live booth. We have a large microphone collection including some exceptional valve mics by Neve and AKG, and a good selection of backline including amps and keyboards that can be made available upon request...

Now consisting of three separate areas, The Bridge can be used as an affordable standalone recording facility without the use of The Engine Room. We can arrange for a Protools rig to be brought in and setup in one of the booths, and then engineers can bring their own choice of outboard. Voila! We now have a whole new overdub/editing/recording studio...
