The Engine Room - 'Flagship Recording & Mix Utopia'
"The sound of Miloco Studio's Engine Room is really important to the sound of our records" - Tom Rowlands (Chemical Brothers)
"The Engine Room for me is all about the monitoring. They are super accurate, hype without being flattering, and to use them for programming, remixing or production is great fun..." - Paul Epworth (Producer)

The Engine Room Information
The Engine Room lives in a totally air-conditioned sound-proofed environment and consists of a
400 sq ft control room with natural daylight and a 640 sq ft live room with large isolation
booth.
The studio has the capacity to be both a top-end mix room and superb recording environment. The live room and isolation booth cater comfortably for a band and the acoustics can be both tight and lively, controlled via large screens. There's a broad and varied microphone collection featuring some lovely valve microphones from Neve and AKG, and we also provide a range of instruments and equipment that includes: a Yamaha Baby Grand Piano, a HiWatt head and Marshall Cabinet, a Hammond and also a Leslie, while other delights - such as Wurlitzers and Rhodes - can often be sourced from our other rooms.
The Control Room is day-lit and has a direct view into the live room. The outboard is situated
in a large rack behind the mixing console and contains many of the toys you would expect in a
top studio. In addition to Massenberg, Focusrite, EAR, Summit, Tubetech and Lexicon we also
boast a range of other intriguing and dynamic units such as the Moog 12 Stage Phaser and the
Marshall Time Modulator.
Behind the large collection of outboard is a raised work surface for Protools operation or the storage of alternate equipment. At the rear of the control room we've a large and luscious sofa to relax on, our fantastic sounding Ampex 1/2" machine and our top of the range HD3 Protools rig. The rig comes loaded with all the latest plug-ins and with 16 inputs and 32 outputs as standard. However, if you still wish to record on to 2", we've also got an Otari MTR90 - guaranteed to satisfy all your analogue cravings.
Another main focus of the room is the impeccable monitoring - widely praised by many of the
industry's top producers and engineers. The customised Munro M4's are regularly aligned and
checked by Nick Whitaker, however as well as these large quality monitors, clients can choose
from a variety of Yamaha NS10's, Adam S3A's and Genelec 1031's. In short, we believe we have the
perfect sonic arsenal to mix your records. The studio is already home to a host of top engineers
and producers such as Steve 'Dub' Jones, Dave Eringa and Colin Richardson, as well as artists
such as The Chemical Brothers. The combination of the Neve VR60, Protools HD rig and large
outboard rig make this room one of the best mixing environments in the country.
In addition to this brilliant studio, clients can relax between sessions in our glorious
recreation room which has been recently redecorated. It comes complete with: pool table,
table football, Sky TV and a Sony Playstation. In both the studio and the recreation area there
is also wireless broadband to cover all your surfing needs. In short, everything you need for
the complete studio experience.
