Musikbox Writing Studio - Overview
A private, stylish and relaxing studio, Musikbox is the perfect city hideout for writers. It is based in Linton House - a large commercial building on Highgate Road - and is only a short walk from Kentish Town tube station.
The sense of privacy here is obvious as soon as you arrive. The studio's entrance is at the back of the building on the far side of a securely gated car park, and once inside this small and secret domain you'd never know that the vibrant streets of Camden are only minutes away.
At the heart of the studio is the control room. Designed by Recording Architecture, you won't find a writing room with much better monitoring than here. It features an immaculately maintained Neve VR60 console; ATC, Auratone, Genelec and Yamaha monitors; Pro Tools HD3 Accel running v10 or v9; and a great choice of Dynamics, EQs, Reverbs and Delays. Then there is the fantastic collection of analogue keyboards and synths which line the walls of the room: ARP, JoMoX, Korg, Moog, Oberheim, Roland, E-mu, Akai and Waldorf models are all at your disposal.
Musikbox has two booths. The first is the smaller of the two, and is perfectly suited to recording vocals and guitar amps. Next door to it is the main booth, which is large enough to fit a drum kit and has a window looking into the control room. There is also a machine room containing the rig to keep control room noise to a minimum.
The rest of the space is filled by a stylish and contemporary chill-out lounge with Sky TV, comfortable furniture and a kitchen area. The room benefits from abundant daylight provided by large ground-level windows, and a selection of lamps and lights to create an ambient mood at night.
