The Pool - 'To Be or Not To Be ?'
"It has an exceptional collection of vintage and modern esoteric equipment, and I feel lucky to have used the space as it is like a musical playroom - full of great instruments, effects, toys and percussion too" - Paul Epworth (Producer)

| Jarvis Cocker's 'Songbook' in The Pool |

If you missed the installment of Sky TV's Songbook series showcasing highlights of the Pulp man's repetoire, here's a great
chance to catch up. The Jarvis episode was filmed in The Pool in November 2008, and sees the former Britpop icon talk us through
the songs which have helped shape his life and career. They include 1995 number one 'Common People', earlier teenage compositions
such as 'Shakespeare Rock' from the late 1970s, and recent solo track 'From Auschwitz To Ipswich', which appeared on the Miloco-mixed Jarvis
album released in 2006.

This Bristol-living indie punk 4-piece came to The Pool in December 2008 with producer Mark Williams, just in time to squeeze a few new tracks into
their recorded repertoire before the year-end. They also were keen on video cameras, and so it was great we were able to get some footage of this
exciting new band in one of our most exciting tracking rooms!

| Bloc Party film 'Live and Intimate' in The Pool |

This Channel 4 documentary, broadcast the same week of the release of Bloc Party's third album, Intimacy, saw the band return to the
studio where they tracked half of the record in the summer of 2008, with producer Paul Epworth.
Take a look at these wonderfully-shot clips of the band performing tracks from the album. There are six in total: 'Ion Square', 'Talons', 'Better Than Heaven', 'One Month Off', 'Halo' and 'Signs'. They're simply great. Strap in and Bloc on! Click the link or the image to view the videos for Bloc Party's 'Live and Intimate' |
| Grand Union Hijack film in The Pool |

Grand Union HiJack brought a pack of pounding tunes to The Pool last year to play around with the room's toys whilst filming some pretty
rockin' clips. They knocked up some videos for the following tunes: 'Mics Out', 'No One Is Safe', 'Sixties Reborn' and 'York Against Cancer'.
They also threw in the very cool 'Entrance to the Grand' clip for good measure. All will be revealed...
You'll get a great feel for how good The Pool is as a dynamic band tracking room in the following clips... Click the link or the image to view Grand Union Hijack in The Pool |
| Travis film 'Something Anything' in The Pool |

Travis came to The Pool in July 2008 to record the video for the lead single from their 6th album, Ode To J. Smith, released
September 2008 on the band's own Red Telephone Box label.
'Something Anything's screen accompaniment takes the unusual form of not having lead-singer/frontman Fran Healy being chased to his inevitable demise by his fellow bandmates, dressed as a giant egg or otherwise, but it's still pretty cool all the same, especially when Andy Dunlop lets rip into a 'towering' axe solo. | Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds film 'Midnight Man' in The Pool |
![]() |
It was a special day in March 2008 when Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds rolled into SE1 to film an internet documentary
following the release of their brilliant Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!! album. They came with an army of cameramen, directors,
producers, label guys, the lot.
We also, for the very first time, exploited the Pool's ability to bolt-on to the Engine Room to use our flagship studio's awesome control room in combination with The Pool's extreme live space. Suffice to say that Miloco's Leroy Street HQ was rockin' that day! Follow the link to watch Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds rip into 'Midnight Man' in The Pool. |
| Sparkadia's recording of 'Postcards' in The Pool |

We were blessed with the company of Sydney-based indie band Sparkadia in the Spring of 2007, when they came to The Pool to track their
debut album Postcards with producer Ben Hillier and Interface engineer Ferg Peterkin. They flew over from Oz with guitars, glockenspiels, and of course
a video camera!!
Have a flick through this fantastic video diary of the 'Postcards sessions' in 2007, and sample the melodic delights, as provided by several album snippets, of Sparkadia. Sparkadia record 'Postcards' in The Pool. |
