Liverpool FC is one the most successful football clubs in European football, and is one of the most widely-supported teams in the world. Anfield is a special stadium with a famous crowd atmopshere. It is certainly worth trying to get tickets for. 

Everton FC is another one of English Football's most historic clubs. Like their bitter local rivals Liverpool FC, the "blue-half" of the city are renowned as boast some of the most passionate supporters in England. Tickets for Goodison Park are probably easier to come by than for Anfield. 

The ACC Liverpool Development on the city's waterfront was opened in 2008 and is split between the BT convention centre and the Echo Arena. Assuming you'll agree with us that the latter half is the more interesting of the two, you may want to go down to taste the events which make it so: concerts, comedy, family entertainment and sport are all regularly on the bill. 

You'll find it hard to avoid tributes to the Fab Four in Liverpool, even if you wanted to. Should you want to go all out then one of the most well-known spots is The Beatles Story Exhibition on Albert Dock.

The intriguing vehicle you see before your eyes goes by the name of The Yellow Duckmarine, which is sold on the inspired slogan of 'Water-way to see Livepool'. You'll no doubt have guessed by now what purpose the Duckmarine serves, and that's to transport sightseers around Liverpool's famous landmarks which it does in the form of one hour tours, starting and ending at Albert Dock on the waterfront. 

At the very heart of The Beatles' legacy is The Cavern in the centre of town, where of course the band's story began. There is a mixture of original bands on the bill each night, plus plenty of tribute acts too. 

You should take up the Tate's offer of free entry to their Liverpool site, located on the historic Albert Dock. The gallery hosts some fantastic exhibitions of international modern and contemporary art, and they sometimes screen arthouse films as well. 

One of the best ways to take in the sights of Liverpool is from afar. Catch the Mersey Ferry and cruise along the waterfront, docks and world-famous Royal Liver Building. Check the website for more information on the various types of cruises and tariffs, and the different start and finish points. 

You can get closer to the Liver Building on foot by going to Pier Head. It is a major part of Liverpool's status as a UNESCO World Heritage Maritime Mercantile City, and its world-famous Gothic design is reported to have played a major influence on other globally-recognised buildings as New York's Manhattan Municipal Building and the Seven Sisters in Moscow. 

The Liverpool Cathedral has an imperious presence looking out over the city, and is one of its most striking and historic buildings. You may fancy taking a trip to get up and close to its magnificent gothic architecture, both on the outside and inside.

The vast Liverpool One development opened in 2008 to coincide with Liverpool's year as The European Capital of Culture. A retail-led project, it has become one of the cities main focal points and attractions with countless high-street chains, dining and drinking facilities and an Odeon complex. 

Marantos Italian is set in a striking three-tiered Tudor house which has become a famous landmark of Lark Lane. The menu is also well-reputed with many delicious meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, plus other dishes such as Barbecued Back Ribs served with Marantos' reputed 'special sauce'. 

Aki's is a very popular haunt on Lark Lane thanks to the large and exotic outdoor terrace, live music nights, big-screen TV showing football and regular happy hours, when you can over-indulge in the great cocktail and wine menu.

This growing chain of Thai restaurants is popping up around North England, and the Liverpool branch has recently prevailed on the foodie awards front. It has been nominated for Cheshire & Lancashire Life's Food & Wine Awards' 'Newcomer of the Year, and was given the 'Taste Liverpool 08' for excellence in food and service. 

Claiming to be "the only Turkish BBQ in Liverpool" Elif is a rare commodity in the city, and a popular one too. Chefs prepare dishes in an open plan kitchen made from ingredients carefully picked and imported from Turkey. There's a great selection of mezes and main courses.

How about any of the following: lamb curry, oxtail, jerk chicken, fried snapper, curried goat, akee n saltfish and cook down chicken, all of which are favourites in this great Carribean restaurant. There's plenty of vegetarian dishes as well, and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. You can also bring your own booze. 

Red Fort is a terrific curry house, often packed to the rafters with diners who can't get enough. The general consensus is superb food, excellent service and a hugely enjoyable atmosphere, making Red Fort one of the very best curry houses in Liverpool. Very conveniently located for a take-away as well.

Located just off Lark Lane, this friendly little establishment multi-tasks brilliantly to come under the various umbrellas of Newsagent, Sandwich Shop, Coffee Shop and General Store. They rustle up some tasty sandwiches at lunchtime, offer free internet and outdoor seating.

'Traditional Greek dishes with a Cypriot twist', is what Romios specialise in. You might fancy heading down for their Mezedes (Greek banquet) one night, where they'll be 15 courses of hot and cold starters and many charcoal-grilled meats to choose from. At the end of the small dining area is a wine bar selling imports.  

This is the cool and atmospheric The Lodge bar, one of Lark Lane's most popular. Dark wooden furniture, scarlet walls and red velvet booths make for a classy, if not vampish feel. 

The local Chinese restaurant, The New Regent, offers a buffet on Thursdays and Sundays as well as a Wednesday-Sunday "early-bird" menu from 5:30-9:00pm. Very good value for money. 

It's not often you stumble across beach huts and palm trees in the Cities of North England, but Lark Lane likes to do things differently. Esteban is a popular Tapas bar serving a wide range ofTapas treats in a characteristic Latino themed room. On sunny days you can enjoy al fresco dining on a beautiful terrace.

'Unsinkable' is a word used to describe the relentless nature of this popular Lark Lane watering hole. Keith's is vintage in pretty much every sense of the word: interior, furnishings, music etc etc. It's popular with all types, particularly arty students who are drawn to its retro vibe. A great food and wine venue with a friendly atmosphere. 

One of Liverpool's biggest and most renowned nightclubs is the host of many legendary billings such as Chibuku and the world-famous Cream. It is made up of 3 separate rooms: the 1000 capacity Main room; 700 capacity Annexe; and 1300 capacity Courtyard. 

Tequila fans rejoice - here is a place where you have 50 different flavours of your favourite Mexican tipple, all going for £1.00 a shot. Perhaps book your cab ride home before entering the venue. 

One of the the best alternative venues in Liverpool, Djangos serves up some brilliant underground jazz, funk and beats 7 nights a week. Free entry, and open til 2am each night. 

Another retro-themed bar which regularly attracts the crowds. Live music and DJs grace the stage 7-nights a week at Bumper. Settle down in the 60's furniture and enjoy what's guaranteed to be a good night. 

Here's one you won't forget in a hurry. Set in the former St. Peter's Catholic Church, Alma De Cuba is a Cuban / Hispanic and is one of the most spectacular in Liverpool. A real carnival atmosphere gets going on the weekends with Brazilian dancers and live Latin music, and there's plenty of great events in the week too. If you want to drink cocktails on what was once a holy altar, then you'll need to bring your deepest pockets.
