"It has an exceptional collection of vintage and modern esoteric equipment, and I feel lucky to have used the space as it is like a musical playroom - full of great instruments, effects, toys and percussion too" - Paul Epworth (Producer)
The Pool Recording Studio - Introduction
Miloco’s The Pool will end your search for the ultimate London recording studio. As far as tracking rooms go it has pretty much everything: a vast live area that resonates vibe and creativity, and a control room and drum booth designed for maximum sound quality. Then there’s the gear...
Amassed by producer Ben Hillier, music entrepreneur Johan Ekelund (co-founder of Kobalt Music Publishing) and Miloco, The Pool’s equipment spec rivals the most famous tracking studios in the UK. Not many rooms can boast over 40 different microphones, let alone three drum kits. There are countless analogue synths, guitars, bass guitars and pedals, and Ben’s collection of amplifiers can be used to full effect in a custom-built amp box large enough for an Ampeg SVT. We've thrown in a Yamaha Baby Grand Piano for good measure.
The arrival of Johan's equipment in 2011 has allowed us to heavily enhance The Pool's control room spec. We now have over 50 Mic Pres and EQs, and countless Dynamics, Reverbs and Delay units. The outboard racks surround a rare EMT console and a monitoring selection of Genelec, Yamaha, Auratone and Tannoys. Protools HD3, loaded with many plug-ins, comes as standard.
The Pool is a hugely versatile recording studio. Its expansive nature allows for equipment to be moved around to create a unique one-room recording environment where producer, engineer and band can all work in a no-separation space. That option allows you to transform the control room into yet another great-sounding recording area to experiment with, but we leave the choice to you.
